Scott Correll Head

Graduate in Philosophy from Duke University (1989), Master's in Latin American Studies (1992) and Phd. in Anthropology (2004) from the University of Texas at Austin, where he defended his dissertation, "Danced Fight, Divided City: Figuring the Space Between", on the Afro-Brazilian martial art form, Capoeira Angola, as practiced in the city of Rio de Janeiro. He is presently an Adjunct (Assistant) Professor at UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina) in Florianópolis, Brazil, and a member of GESTO (Study Group in Orality and Performance), conducting research in the field of performance and visual ethnography. He is the co-editor of "Devires Imagéticos: ethnography, the other and their images" (2009, 7letras/Faperj). His ongoing research project focuses on connections between street performance, photography, and anthropological perspectives thereof. Presently, he is on Sabbatical at UCL (University College of London), working on the research project, "The Street as Scene: intersections between performance, ethnography and image".

É Doutor em Antropologia (2004) e Mestre em Latin American Studies (1992) pela University of Texas at Austin. Possui graduação em Filosofia pela Duke University (1989). Sua tese, "Danced Fight, Divided City: Figuring the Space Between" (2004), é sobre a arte lúdica-marcial Capoeira Angola, e as ressonâncias desta prática cultural com imagens históricas e contemporâneas do meio urbano de Rio de Janeiro. Atualmente é professor adjunto da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, e pesquisador e co-coordenador do Grupo de Estudos em Oralidade e Performance (GESTO), e co-coordenador da rede Arte, Performance e Sociabilidades do Instituto Brasil Plural (INCT/CNPq), desenvolvendo pesquisas no campo da performance, imagem, gesto e etnografia. . Em 2014-2015, realizou pós-doutorado no UCL (University College of London), com o projeto de pesquisa, "A rua como cena: intersecções entre performance, etnografia e imagem" (financiado pela CAPES). Atualmente (nov 2021-out 2022) está realizando pós-doutorado no ISCTE/CRIA em Lisboa, com o projeto de pesquisa, ?Emergências Cotidianas: traçando gestos entre a performance, o cotidiano e suas políticas."
