Joaquim Murray Bustorff-Silva

Joaquim Murray Bustorff-Silva has a degree in Medicine from STATE UNIVERSITY OF CAMPINAS MEDICAL SCHOOL (FCM-UNICAMP) in 1981 and completed his PhD in 1992 from the same university. Held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA Department of Pediatric Surgery from 1997 to 1998. He is currently Full Professor of the Department of Surgery FCM-UNICAMP having been approved in a public tender on 18 May 2007. He has published over 80 articles in medical journals and about 95 in papers in conference proceedings. It has written 9 chapters of published books. He guided 5 Master and 5 PhD Thesis and several funded scientific initiations. He is coordinator of the division of Pediatric Surgery at FCM-UNICAMP and has been the Head of the Department of Surgery daFCM-UNICAMP from March 2010 to April 2014. He is an ad-hoc advisor to several funding agencies (FAPESP, CNPq and FAEP) and reviewer of several speciality journals ( J. Pediatrics, J. Pediatric Surgery and J. Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition) His research areas of interest are ​​Digestive Physiology with emphasis on Intestinal Motility, Congenital Megacolon, Gastro-oesophageal Reflux and effects of neurological diseases on intestinal motility. More recently he has been working with regenerative medicine investigating the role of stem cells in the recovery of intestinal motility.

Joaquim Murray Bustorff-Silva é formado em Medicina pela UNICAMP em 1981 e concluiu o seu Doutoramento em 1992 pela mesma Universidade. Realizou estágio de Pós-Doutoramento no Departamento de Cirurgia Pediátrica da UCLA entre 1997 e 1998. Atualmente é Professor Titular da UNIVERSIDADE ESTADUAL DE CAMPINAS tendo sido aprovado em Concurso público em 18 de Maio de 2007. Publicou mais de 80 artigos em periódicos especializados e cerca de 95 trabalhos em anais de eventos. Possui 9 capítulos de livros publicados. Orientou 8 Dissertações de Mestrado e 7 Teses de Doutorado além de várias iniciações científicas com bolsa. É coordenador do Serviço de Cirurgia Pediátrica da FCM-UNICAMP e foi Chefe do Departamento de Cirurgia da FCM-UNICAMP Março de 2010 e Março de 2014. Desempenha atividades como assessor ad-hoc de agências de fomento ( FAPESP, CNPq e FAEP ) e pareceirista de revistas da Especialidade ( J. Pediatria, J. Ped. Surgery e J. Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, PLosOne) Atua na área de Fisiologia Digestiva, com ênfase na área de motilidade intestinal, megacolo congênito, refluxo gastro-esofágico e efeitos das doenças neurológicas sobre a motilidade intestinal. Mais recentemente tem, em colaboração com outros pesquisadoras da UNICAMP, se dedicado à investigação do papel da terapia celular nos distúrbios de motilidade intestinal.
