Ruy Alberto Correa Altafim

He has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos - University of São Paulo (1979), MS in Electrical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos - University of São Paulo (1984) and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic School - University of São Paulo (1990). He has over 130 articles in international journals and conferences. He was a guest researcher at NIST -. Stands and National Institute of Technology (1994-1995), and guest researcher at the University of Potsdam in 2010 He was also Vice-Director of the EESC-USP and Pro-rector of Culture and University Extension, University of São Paulo. Currently he is Full Professor at USP and head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering EESC-USP. He is also Senior Member of IEEE; Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation; Board of CEIDP - IEEE Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena and SIPDA - International Symposium on Lightning Protection. He was elected for the period 2014-2016 as a member of the Adcom of the IEEE Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society. Has experience in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Measurement, Control, Correction and Protection of Electrical Power Systems, acting on the following topics: grounding systems, solid dielectrics, lightning, piezoelectricity and electrical sensors. He also serves as scientific advisor on research projects by the FAPESP, CNPq, besides legal expertise.systems. He has continually published in these areas.

Possui graduação em Engenharia Elétrica pela Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos - Universidade de São Paulo (1979), mestrado em Engenharia Elétrica pela Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos - Universidade de São Paulo (1984) e doutorado em Engenharia Elétrica pela Escola Politécnica - Universidade de São Paulo (1990). Possui mais de 120 artigos em revistas e conferencias internacionais. Foi pesquisador convidado do NIST - National Institute of Stands and Technology (1994-1995). Foi pesquisador convidado da University of Potsdam em 2010. Foi também Vice-diretor da EESC-USP e Pró-Reitor de Cultura e Extensão Universitária da Universidade de São Paulo. Atualmente é professor titular senior da USP e professor visitante na Universidade Federal da Paraíba. É Senior Member do IEEE; Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation e foi editor regional da IEEE Electrical Insulation Magazine até 2018; Board of CEIDP - IEEE Conference on Eletrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena e do SIPDA - Internacional Symposium on Lightning Protection. Foi eleito para o período de 2014-2016 como membro do AdCom da IEEE Dielectric and Electrical Insulation Society. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia Elétrica, com ênfase em Medição, Controle, Correção e Proteção de Sistemas Elétricos de Potência, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: aterramento de sistemas, dielétricos sólidos, descargas atmosféricas, piezoeletricidade e sensores elétricos. Também atua como assessor científicos em projetos de pesquisa junto à FAPESP, CNPq, além perícias judiciais.
