Profa. Dra. Lena Virgínia Soares Monteiro

Lena Virgínia Soares Monteiro obtained her B.Sc. in Geology in 1994 from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. She received her MSc. degree in Geosciences (1997) and earned her PhD degree (2002) from the same university. Her master and doctoral research were focused on the metallogenetic evolution of carbonate-hosted non-sulfide and sulfide-rich zinc-(lead) deposits of the Vazante-Paracatu Belt, Brazil. Lena Monteiro joined the Crustal Evolution and Metallogenesis research group of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2003, where she conducted research on iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) systems of the Archean Carajás Province, Brazil. She is currently developing research projects on the spatial and temporal evolution of mineral systems and ore genesis, particularly related to IOCG, copper-gold and gold-only porphyry, and lead-zinc, and on hydrothermal systems in carbonate basins. In 2018, she was the Regional Vice President Lecturer of the Society of Economic Geology (SEG 2018). Dr. Monteiro is Associate Professor at the University of São Paulo and Chairman of the IGc-USP Graduate Committee.

Possui graduação em Geologia pela Universidade de São Paulo (1993), mestrado (1997) e doutorado (2002) em Geociências (Recursos Minerais) pela Universidade de São Paulo e pós-doutorado (Evolução Crustal e Metalogênese) pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2006) e Colorado School of Mines (2005). Atualmente é Professora Associada (MS-5.3) da Universidade de São Paulo. Tem experiência na área de Metalogênese. Desenvolve pesquisas relativas à evolução temporal e espacial de sistemas minerais, com foco nos depósitos de óxido de ferro-cobre-ouro e de metais base, incluindo depósitos de zinco e chumbo em rochas carbonáticas, e na evolução de sistemas hidrotermais em reservatórios carbonáticos. Foi "Regional Vice President Lecturer" da "Society of Economic Geology" (SEG 2018). Atualmente é Vice-Chefe do Departamento de Geologia sedimentar e Ambiental e Presidente da Comissão de Pós-Graduação do IGc-USP.
