Graduado em Física Médica (2015) e Mestre pelo programa de Biotecnologia da Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). Iniciou o Doutorado no Departamento de Genética pela Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto na Universidade de São Paulo (USP) em 2017. Desde o início do Doutorado o foco foi compreender o macroambiente intratumoral através do sequenciamento de RNA de células únicas (single-cell RNA-seq), principalmente de Melanoma e Câncer de Pulmão de Pequenas Células (SCLC). Durante o Doutorado teve a oportunidade de passar um período no ERIBA (European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing) localizado no Centro Médico Universitário de Groningen, na Holanda, no laboratório do Prof. Dr. Floris Foijer, onde estudou sobre aneuploidia e instabilidade cromossomal em câncer em dados de single-cell DNA-seq. Além disso teve a oportunidade de passar 1 ano no CMMC (Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne) no Departamento de Genômica Translacional da Universidade de Colônia na Alemanha, aprendendo e aprimorando as habilidades de lidar com diferentes tipos de análises para dados de single-cell RNA-seq em Câncer de Pulmão de Pequenas Células (SCLC) com o Prof. Dr. Martin Peifer. Atualmente se enquadra na posição de Research Fellow no Dana-Farber Cancer Institute afiliado à Harvard Medical School e Broad Institute, no laboratório da Profa. Dra. Mariella Filbin localizado no Departamento de Oncologia Pediátrica, buscando entender melhor os tumores pediátricos utilizando as tecnologias mais atuais como single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, Spatial Transcriptomics, entre outras. Em 2019 tornou-se sócio da NEOGENYS Diágnostico Molecular, startup focada em pesquisa e desenvolvimento de soluções na área de Diagnóstico Molecular em Oncologia, especificamente quanto à estratificação de risco do paciente, para que o médico possa ter uma maior precisão na rápida tomada de decisão do protocolo de tratamento a ser utilizado no paciente. Na NEOGENYS, Carlos atua como Bioinformata.
He graduated in Medical Physics (2015) and a Master's degree from the Biotechnology program at the São Paulo State University (UNESP). He started his Ph.D. in the Department of Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) in 2017. Since the beginning of the Ph.D., the focus has been on understanding the intratumoral macroenvironment through single-cell RNA-seq, mainly from Melanoma and Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC). During his Ph.D. he had the opportunity to spend a period at the ERIBA (European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging) located at the University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands, in the laboratory of Dr. Floris Foijer, where he studied aneuploidy and chromosomal instability in cancer on single-cell DNA-seq data. In addition, he had the opportunity to spend one year at CMMC (Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne) in the Department of Translational Genomics at the University of Cologne in Germany, learning and improving his skills in handling different types of analyses for single-cell RNA-seq data in Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) with Dr. Martin Peifer. Currently falls into the position of Research Fellow at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Broad Institute, in Prof. Dr. Mariella Filbin's lab located in the Department of Pediatric Oncology, seeking to understand pediatric tumors better using the most current technologies such as single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, Spatial Transcriptomics, among others. In 2019 he became a partner in NEOGENYS Diagnostico Molecular, a startup focused on research and development of solutions in the area of Molecular Diagnostics in Oncology, specifically regarding patient risk stratification, so that the physician can have greater accuracy in making a quick decision on the treatment protocol to be used in the patient. At NEOGENYS, Carlos works as a Bioinformatician.
