Prof. Carlos José Pereira de Lucena

Graduated in Economics and Mathematics from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1965), he got a Master´s of Mathematics from the Department of Computer Science & Applied Analysis of the University of Waterloo (1969), a PhD in Computer Science from the Computer Science Department of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences of the University of California at Los Angeles (1974) and was a post-doctoral research fellow at the IBM Research Laboratory in Palo Alto (1975). Since 1982 he is a full professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo and a Research Associate at the Fraunhofer FIRST Institute in Berlin. He is a member of the editorial board of several international journals: the Communications of the ACM, the Proceedings Journal of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, The International Journal of Formal Aspects of Computing and the International Journal of Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (IJAOSE). He has experience in the field of Computer Science, with emphasis on formal aspects of computing, software engineering and multi-agent systems. He has published more than 700 refereed papers in leading publication venues in these areas. Prof. Lucena receives a level 1A research productivity fellowship from the CNPq (Research Council). In his career he worked at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro as vice-rector of the University, Dean for the Center for Science and Technology, and several times Director of the Computer Science Department. Prof. Lucena was awarded the insignia for the Grand Cross of the Order of Scientific Merit of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, the Medal of Scientific Merit Carlos Chagas Filho from the Council of Directors of FAPERJ (State Research Council), the Alvaro Alberto Award for Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology), ACM Fellow Award and several times the IBM Innovation Award, among many others . Prof. Lucena is a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation, fellow of TWAS (Academy of Sciences for the Developing World) and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Full Membership Board, National Engineering Academy (ANE) in 2016 and Highlight in Human Resource Training for Excellence in Software Engineering, Brazilian Congress of Software - Theory And Practice (VII CBSoft) in 2016. Until 2017 he has supervised 49 PhD theses and 121 MSc dissertations.

Desde 1982 é professor titular da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. Ele é também professor adjunto da Universidade de Waterloo (Canadá) e pesquisador associado do Fraunhofer Institute FIRST em Berlim. É membro do corpo editorial de diversos periódicos internacionais: da Communications of the ACM, do periódico dos Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, do Journal of Formal Aspects of Computing e do Journal of Agent-Oriented Software Engineering (IJAOSE). Tem experiência na área de Ciência da Computação , com ênfase em Métodos Formais, Engenharia de Software e Sistemas Multiagentes. Publicou mais de 700 trabalhos arbitrados nos principais veículos destas áreas. O professor é bolsista de produtividade em pesquisa do CNPq no nível 1A. Em sua carreira atuou na Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro como vice-reitor da Universidade, Decano do Centro Técnico e Científico e por várias vezes Diretor do Departamento Informática. Prof Lucena. foi premiado com a insígnia da Classe Grã-Cruz da Ordem do Mérito Científico da Presidência da República do Brasil, com a Medalha Carlos Chagas Filho de Mérito Científico, Diretoria e Conselho Superior da FAPERJ, com o Prêmio Álvaro Alberto de Ciências e Tecnologia do Ministério de Ciência e Tecnologia e com vários prêmios IBM Innovation Award, dentre muitos outros. O prof. Lucena é fellow da Fundação Guggenheim, fellow of TWAS (Academy of Sciences for the Developing World) e membro titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. Até junho de 2017, orientou 49 teses de doutorado e 121 dissertações de mestrado. Comtemplado com os prêmios: ACM Distinguished Scientist em 2009, ACM Fellow em 2013, Quadro de Membros Titulares, Academia Nacional de Engenharia (ANE) em 2016, Destaque na Formação de Recursos Humanos de Excelência em Engenharia de Software, Congresso Brasileiro de Software - Teoria e Prática (VII CBSoft) em 2016 e a medalha de Nobres Parcerias do Canadá em 2017. Desde 2010, Prof Lucena se tornou o presidente do Instituto Nacional de Ciências da Web (INCT).
