Edisson Chavarro Mesa
Biologist with a MSc. in Agricultural Sciences (Phytopathology) from the National University of Colombia and PhD in Agronomy Sciences (Genetics and Plant Breeding) from São Paulo State University - UNESP, Brazil. My research interests are focused on population genetics, plant pathogens - emergency and plant breeding. During my doctoral research I had the opportunity to expand my knowledge primarily in the following themes: genetic structure of populations, phylogenetics, phylogeography, and evolution. My skills are the following: molecular identification of microorganisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi), using DNA-based methods (IC-PCR, RT-PCR and real time PCR); using molecular markers (RAPDs, RAMS, RFLP and AFLP), similarity-dissimilarity indices and agglomeration methods based on UPGMA analysis; analysis of phylogenies using the following methods: i. genetic distances (UPGMA and Neighbor-Joining), ii. Maximum Parsimony (MP), iii. Probabilistic; Bayesian Inference and Maximum Likelihood (ML); application of the theory of coalescence to detect or estimate evolutionary parameters observed in samples of current organisms; experience in genotyping using microsatellite markers (SSRs); analysis of inheritance and segregation of genetic markers, genetic diversity, inbreeding, historical genetic and contemporary gene flow, reproductive systems and spatial genetic structure.
graduation at Biólogo from Universidad INCCA de Colombia (2005), master's at Enfase em Fitopatologia from Universidad Nacional de Colombia - Bogotá (2011) and doctorate at Agronomy from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2015). Has experience in Biochemistry, focusing on Molecular Biology, acting on the following subjects: rhizoctonia solani ag1 ia, detecçao de patogenos, rhizoctonia oryzae, marcadores moleculares and rhizoctonia solani ag-3.
