Paulo Marcio Leal de Menezes

Officer in Military Engineering from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy (1969), bachelor in Geodesy and Topography Engineering from the Militaru Institute of Engineering (1977); Master's degree in Systems and Computing from the Military Institute of Engineering (1987) and a PhD in Geography from the Federal University Of Rio de Janeiro (2000). Currently is Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where he is the Head of GeoCart - Laboratory of Cartography, Department of Geography. He has experience in Geosciences, with emphasis on Basic Cartography, Calculus of Adjustment and Geodesy, working mainly in the following areas: cartography, remote sensing, geoprocessing, digital cartography, historical cartography and geographical names (toponyms). He served as Vice President of the International Cartographic Association (ICA / ACI) in the period 2011-2015 within the Association's Executive Committee. He is currentlyVice-Chair of the ICA / UGI Joint Committee on Toponymy. CNPq's Researcher 2 since March 2022.

possui graduação em Engenharia de Geodésia e Topografia pelo Instituto Militar de Engenharia (1977), graduação em Engenharia pela Academia Militar das Agulhas Negras (1969), mestrado em Sistemas e Computação pelo Instituto Militar de Engenharia (1987) e doutorado em Geografia pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2000). Atualmente é professor Titular da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, onde é o coordenador do GeoCart - Laboratório de Cartografia, do Dep. de Geografia. Tem experiência na área de Geociências, com ênfase em Cartografia Básica, Cálculo de Ajustamento e Geodésia, atuando principalmente nas seguintes áreas: cartografia, sensoriamento remoto, geoprocessamento, cartografia digital, cartografia histórica e nomes geográficos (topônimos). Atuou como Vice Presidente da Associação Cartográfica Internacional (ICA/ACI), no período de 2011-2015 dentro do Comitê Executivo da Associação. Atualmente é oVice-Chair da Commissão Conjuta ICA/UGI em Toponímia. Pesquisador 2 do CNPq desde março 2022. Promoção à Professor Titular em 30/04/2022.
