Elkin Ferney Rodriguez Velandia received the Dipl.-Eng. degree in Electronic Engineering from "Los Libertadores" University, Bogotá - Colombia. He received M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in Engineering at Fluminense Federal University - UFF, Nitéroi - Brazil. His research focused in the study of active magnetic levitation. The research emphasis was Active Magnetic Bearings and Self Bearing Motor. He held a postdoctoral position at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro between 2010 and 2014. During this time he conducted research on Passive Magnetic Bearings. Permanent magnets radial bearing and axial superconductor bearing were used to construct a passive magnetic bearing. In 2018 and 2019 he held a postdoctoral at Applied Superconductivity Laboratory, State Key Laboratory of Traction Power of Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu - China.
He is now an associate professor at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is working on several researches about magnetic levitation systems with the use of superconductors, permanent magnets and electromagnets. The instrumentation, measurements and control are among the areas of interest.
