Catia Valdman

Graduated in Telecomunications Engineering from the Fluminense Federal University (2002), with a master degree in Electrical Engineering from the Military Institute of Engineering (2006) and a Doctor in Science in Electrical Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ (2014). In 2006, she joined the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) as a patent examiner in the telecomunications area. From 2017 to 2022, she was head of the Division of Telecomunications Patents at INPI, when she the moved to the head of the Division of Computer and Electronics Patents, the position she currently holds. At the same time, she coordenates the Patent Classification Working Group at INPI, representing Brazil at international meetings on the subject held by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

Possui graduação em Engenharia de Telecomunicações pela Universidade Federal Fluminense (2002), mestrado em Engenharia Elétrica pelo Instituto Militar de Engenharia (2006) e doutorado em Engenharia Elétrica pela COPPE/UFRJ. Entrou no Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial (INPI) como examinadora de patentes da área de telecomunicações em 2006. De 2017 a 2022 foi chefe da Divisão de Patentes de Telecomunicações do INPI, quando então migrou para a chefia da Divisão de Eletrônica e Computação, onde está atuando desde então. Paralelamente, coordena o Grupo de Trabalho de Classificação de Patentes do INPI, representando o Brasil em reuniões internacionais do assunto ministradas pela Organização Mundial de Propriedade Intelectual (OMPI) em Genebra, Suíça.
