Vladimiro Henrique Barrosa Pinto de Miranda

Vladimiro Miranda holds a Ph.D. degree (1982) from FEUP, the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, Portugal. He has been a lecturer at FEUP since 1980, holding presently the position of Full Professor (Professor Catedrático) in the area of Power Systems. Since 2000 he has been serving as a Member of the Board of Directors of INESC TEC- a private, nonprofit R&D institute, declared of public interest, appointed as Associated Laboratory by the Ministry of Science of the Government of Portugal. He has been always a researcher in the Center for Power and Energy Systems of INESC TEC. Prof. Miranda is presently the President of INESC P&D Brazil. He was previously the President of the Board of Directors of INESC Macau, China. He is presently Director at OCEANUS ? Marine Research and Innovation, at the University of Porto, Portugal, invited Guest Professor at the University of Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia. He is International Advisor at: IIT - Instituto de Investigaciones Tecnológicas, Madrid, Espanha; IEE - Instituto de Energia Eléctrica, Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Argentina; member of the Scientific Council of IRESEN, the Agency of the Government of Morocco for research in renewable energies. He is also Scientific Advisor of the Laboratory for Biologic and Chemical Defense of the Portuguese Army and of the Hydrographic Institute of the Portuguese Navy, member of the Doctoral Council of the University UTAD in Portugal and member of the Strategic Council of the Forum Oceano enterprise association for the blue economy.. Between 2013 and 2019, he served as International Academic Advisor for the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (China). He was Visiting Researcher in the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, from 2015 to 2018, and Visiting Professor in the Federal University of Pará, Brazil, in 2005. Previously, he had been Professor in the University of Macau, China (1996 and 1997). He has supervised, co-supervised or cooperated in the supervision of a large number of PhD and MSc theses e power systems in several countries and universities such as in Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, Bosnia, China, Ecuador, Norway or Sweden. He has been serving in the Administration board of companies incubated by INESC and acting as consultant for industrial companies and for companies and agencies devoted to innovation and technology. Prof. Miranda has been serving as Project evaluator for the Foundation of Science and Technology and for the Innovation Agency in Portugal, as well as for similar governmental organizations in Norway, Croatia, South Africa, Chile and Argentina, for whose Ministry of Science and Technology he has also served as evaluator of research institutions. His expertise areas are in planning and operation of power systems including large scale integration of conventional and new renewable energies and in the application of a Computational Intelligence approach to models. He has authored a large number of publications in the most prestigious international journals in his area of expertise, mainly in the IEEE Transactions in Power Systems. Prof. Miranda is recognized as an international expert in Computational Intelligence in Power Systems and for this motive he was elevated to the degree of Fellow of the IEEE (USA). He was the recipient in 2013 of the IEEE PES Rumakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award. He is a member of the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program.

Vladimiro Miranda é Doutorado em Engenharia Eletrotécnica (1982) pela FEUP (Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Portugal). É docente na FEUP desde 1980 e no momento Professor Catedrático, lecionando disciplinas na área da energia. Foi, desde 2000 até Junho de 2018, Diretor (presentemente com a designação de Administrador, membro do Conselho de Administração) do INESC TEC (instituto privado, sem fins lucrativos e de utilidade pública), declarado Laboratório Associado do Estado pelo MCTES - Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior do Governo de Portugal. Tem sido sempre pesquisador no Centro de Sistemas de Energia do INESC TEC. Presentemente, exerce a função de Diretor Associado (Relações Internacionais) Atualmente, é Diretor Presidente do INESC P&D Brasil (desde 2012). Foi anteriormente Presidente do INESC Macau, China (1996 e 1997). É Consultor Internacional das seguintes instituições: IIT - Instituto de Investigaciones Tecnológicas, Madrid, Espanha; IEE - Instituto de Energia Eléctrica, Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Argentina; membro do Conselho Científico do IRESEN, Agência do Governo de Marrocos para a pesquisa em energias renováveis; GEP - Green energy Park, Marrocos. É ainda Conselheiro Científico do Laboratorio de Defesa Biológica e Química das Forças Armadas de Portugal e do Instituto Hidrográfico da Marinha Portuguesa, membro do Conselho Doutoral da Universidade de Trás os Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), Portugal e membro do Conselho Estratégico da associação empresarial para a economia do mar Forum Oceano, Portugal. Entre 2013 e 2018 foi Conselheiro Internacional do Departamento de Engenharia Elétrica da Polytechnic University de Hong Kong (PolyU), China. Foi Pesquisador Visitante da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brasil, entre 2015 e 2018, e Professor Visitante na Universidade Federal do Pará, Brasil, em 2005, com bolsa da CAPES com a categoria de Professor Titular. Anteriormente, fora Professor Catedrático na Universidade de Macau, China (1996 e 1997). Orientou, coorientou ou cooperou na orientação de numerosas teses de doutoramento e mestrado em temas de energia com alunos de diversas regiões do mundo e em universidades em Argentina, Brazil, Bósnia, China, Croácia, Equador, Noruega, Portugal ou Suécia. Tem servido na Administração de empresas incubadas pelo sistema INESC (RUMOS SA, SmartWatt SA). Também exerceu funções de consultor para empresas do setor elétrico ou dedicadas à inovação e para a Agência de Inovação (ADI), entidade dependente do Governo de Portugal dedicada à inovação e transferência de tecnologia. Tem vindo a servir como avaliador de projetos para a ANI (Agência Nacional de Inovação) e de bolsas na FCT (Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia) do MCTES, Portugal, bem como avaliador de projetos para as organizações governamentais similares da África do Sul, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Croácia e Noruega. Serviu igualmente como Consultor do Programa de Evaluación Institucional de OCT do MinCyT do Governo da Argentina para a avaliação de institutos de investigação/pesquisa em ciência e tecnologia. A sua especialidade incide no planejamento e operação de sistemas de potência incluindo integração em larga escala de geração convencional e renovável e na abordagem de Inteligência Computacional na construção de modelos. É autor de um elevado número de publicações nas mais prestigiadas revistas internacionais da especialidade, principalmente nas Transactions do IEEE (h-index 37 SCOPUS, em março de 2021). É reconhecido como especialista mundial em Inteligência Computacional em Sistemas de Energia, tendo sido por esse motivo elevado ao grau de Fellow do IEEE (USA). Foi-lhe atribuído em 2013 o prémio IEEE PES Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award. É ainda membro do IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program.
