Karina Lezirovitz Mandelbaum

I have a B.S. in Biological Sciences, M.S. and PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology, all from USP (University of São Paulo). I am a human molecular geneticist and have been working with genetics of deafness, mainly through linkage analysis and sequencing, since my days as an undergraduate. After my PhD, I have worked for almost two years at the Research and Development Department of Fleury, where I could immerse myself in many different areas of research and development, broadening my technical knowledge and ways of pursuing scientific research. In 2009, I was hired as a Research Associate in the Otolaryngology lab at School of Medicine Clinics Hospital from University of São Paulo. Thus, I was able to continue with my research interests, but I also needed to expand my research perspectives, so I engaged in research lines such as gene expression studies,cell biology, iPS cells and proteomics in order to unravel pathophysiology mechanisms. Concurrent with my Research Associate position, I completed my postdoc in 2019. My expertise involves techniques such as RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, real-time PCR, MLPA, Sequencing, Microsatellite Analysis, Cell culture etc.
