As an internationally recognized specialist in argumentation, I am particularly interested in the theory and practice of speech in political life and democratic societies. My work explores the relationship between how discourse influences policy, and vice versa; how debate and argumentation can liberate practical thinking and refine decision-making; how disagreement and controversy adds value to democracy; and how greater linguistic and cultural diversity can enrich work, exchange and research.
