Graduado em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (1979), Residência em Cirurgia Geral (1980 a 1982), Estágio em Gastrenterologia Cirúrgica (1983 a 1984), mestrado e doutorado (Gastroenterologia Cirúrgica) pela Universidade Federal de São Paulo (1989 e 1999). Fellow da Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas e Visiting Clinician na Mayo Clinic Rochester, Minnesota, USA(1992). Bolsista da UICC em 1994 na DONG -A University College of Medicine, Busan, Coreia do Sul. Atualmente é coordenador da Cirurgia do Aparelho Digestivo da Fundação Oswaldo Ramos/ Hospital do Rim e Hipertensão e Ex-Professor Associado da Disciplina de Gastroenterologia Cirúrgica do Departamento de Cirurgia da Universidade Federal de São Paulo. Atuava também na graduação e pós-graduação da UNIFESP principalmente nos seguintes temas: câncer do esôfago e do estômago, gist , tumores neuroendócrinos e complicações gastrointestinais do transplantado renal. Em 2017 seu diploma de medico foi validado pela Universidade de Lisboa (2017) Portugal onde também atua. Em 2021 foi admitido na Especialidade de Cirurgia Geral pelo Colegio de Especialidade da Ordem dos Médicos da Regiao Sul - Lisboa.
