Engenheira Sanitarista e Ambiental pela UFBA (1987), Mestrado em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela UFBA (1997), Doutorado em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela UFBA (2004), pós-doutorado no Institut de Govern i Polítiques Publiques (IGOP) na Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB-ES) e pós-doutorado Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Professora Associada (Classe D) e pesquisadora do Departamento de Engenharia Ambiental, do Mestrado em Meio Ambiente Águas e Saneamento da Escola Politécnica. Líder do Grupo de Pesquisa "Saneamento e Saúde Ambiental". Membro do Conselho Editorial Científico da Revista Eletrônica Gestão e Tecnologias Ambientais, membro do Conselho Editorial Científico da Revista Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental, da Revista DAE, da Revista Baiana de Saúde Pública, dentre outras, no total de 16. Entre abril de 2010 a março de 2012 e novembro de 2016 a novembro de 2018 foi coordenadora do Colegiado do Curso de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental da UFBA. Entre 2010 a 2012 foi subcoordenadora do estudo Panorama do Saneamento Básico - Ministério das Cidades, documento de base do Plano Nacional de Saneamento Básico e aprovado em 2013. Entre 2015 e 2018 foi coordenadora técnica do Observatório do Saneamento Básico da Bahia, um esforço interinstitucional da UFBA, do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia da Bahia, do Ministério Público da Bahia, do Sindicato de Água, Esgoto e Meio Ambiente da Bahia, do Grupo Ambientalista da Bahia e da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental-Seção Bahia. Vem atuando nos seguintes temas: política; gestão e planejamento em saneamento básico; avaliação de políticas e tecnologias; tecnologias sociais no semiárido baiano; saneamento em periferias urbanas; tecnologias apropriadas para o esgotamento sanitário (sistema condominial de esgoto); saneamento na escola; saneamento, gênero e raça; qualidade da água de consumo humano; relação saúde-saneamento; sistemas de indicadores socioambiental; avaliação da qualidade ambiental urbana; capacitação de recursos humanos; e ensino, pesquisa e o mundo do trabalho na área da Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental.
