Carolina Motter Catarino

Carolina received her bachelors degree in Bioprocess & Biotechnology Engineering from Federal University of Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil. During her undergraduate studies she spent one year in France as part of the Brazilian exchange program Brafitec (Capes). She attended the University of Technology of Compiègne and did an internship at L?Oreal (Paris, France). In 2015, Carolina obtained a Master?s degree from the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals Science, University of São Paulo (São Paulo, Brazil) on Pharmaceuticals Sciences: clinical analysis. During her masters she worked on the development of a reconstructed human epidermal model for toxicological screening of chemical compounds as an alternative to animal testing. Follwing her Master degree, Carolina joined Dr. Karande's Laboratory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY, USA) where she obtained her Ph.D. on Chemical and Biological Engineer in 2020. During this time, she had a 4 year fellowship from the Science Without Borders Program (Brazil). She worked on the development of 3D bioprinted reconstructed skin model aiming the increase of model complexicty by diversifying molecular composition and incorporation of hair follicle structures. Currently, she works as researcher at the Laboratory of Alternative Methods at Group Boticário.
