Obtained a master?s in medicine from the University of Juiz de Fora (1992) and doctorates in Experimental Oncology from the Free University of Amsterdam (2001). Senior Researcher for research coordination from the National Cancer Institute (INCA) between 2002 and 2015, where he took on the following roles: Head of the Division for Clinical Research; Head of the Scientific Program for Clinical Research; Founder and the primary researcher for the National Tumor and DNA Bank (BNT); and Coordinator of the National Network for Development of Anticancer Drugs. (RNPCC/SCTIE/MS).
Since 2018, acted as the President of Oncoclinicas Institute. In the national and international arena, possess the following titles: long-standing members of the scientific commission (CCVISA) from the National Health Surveillance Agency; Chair of the Latin American Oncology Consortium (LAOC); Co-Chair of Career Development and the Fellowship Committee of the International Association for Research and Treatment of Lung Cancer (IALSC); Director in Brazil for the International Network of Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR); and a member of the Advisory Committee from America?s Health Foundation (AHF).
Mentored and co-mentored 22 master?s dissertation, 13 doctoral thesis, and supervised 4 post-doctorates students. Editor for the molecular oncology book (winner of the Jabuti Award in 2015) and General Editor of the Cancer Series for Atheneu publishing house. Experienced in the medical field with emphasis in Cancerology; acting mainly within the following areas: long cancer, clinical essays, biomarkers, and molecular diagnostics. Experienced in innovation health projects relating to health, having worked alongside the government and productive sector in projects linked to the development of diagnostics kits, new drugs, and health economics. Possui graduação em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora (1992) e doutorado em Oncologia Experimental - Free University of Amsterdam (2001). Foi pesquisador Sênior da Coordenação de Pesquisa do Instituto Nacional de Câncer (INCA) entre 2002 e 2015, onde exerceu as seguintes atividades: Chefe da Divisão de Pesquisa Clínica, Chefe do Programa Científico de Pesquisa Clínica, Idealizador e Pesquisador Principal do Banco Nacional de Tumores e DNA (BNT), Coordenador da Rede Nacional de Desenvolvimento de Fármacos Anticâncer (REDEFAC/SCTIE/MS) e Coordenador da Rede Nacional de Pesquisa Clínica em Câncer (RNPCC/SCTIE/MS). Desde 2018 é Presidente do Instituto Oncoclínicas e Diretor Científico Estatutário do Grupo Oncoclínicas. Em Novembro de 2021 assumiu também a posição de Chief Medical Officer (CMO) do Grupo Oncoclínicas. Exreceu também o cargo de Líder Nacional de Oncologia Torácica de Janeiro de 2019 a junho de 2023.
No âmbito nacional e internacional foi Membro Titular da Comissão Científica (CCVISA) da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA). No âmbito internacional é membro do Board of Directors da International Association for the Research and Treatment of Lung Cancer (IALSC); Membro do International Affaris Committee da ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology); Diretor no Brasil da International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR). Presidente da SBOC (Sociedade Brasileira de Oncologia Clínica) desde Janeiro de 2023. Já orientou e co-orientou 22 dissertações de mestrados, 15 teses de doutorado e supervisionou 4 pós-doutorados. Editor do Livro Oncologia Molecular (ganhador do Prêmio Jabuti em 2005) e Editor Geral da Série Câncer da Editora Atheneu. Editor do LIvro Oncologia de Precisão e Co-editor de 4 outras obras pelo Instituto Oncoclínicas. Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em Cancerologia, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: câncer de pulmão, ensaios clínicos, biomarcadores e diagnóstico molecular. Tem experiência em projetos de inovação em saúde, tendo atuado junto ao Governo e setor produtivo em projetos ligados ao desenvolvimento de kits diagnósticos, novos fármacos e economia da saúde. Tem se dedicado nos últimos anos em termos de pesquisa a estudos de economia da saúde com geração de dados de mundo real (RWE) que subsidiem políticas de acesso em Oncologia.
