Rashmi Singh

Rashmi Singh is a Lecturer in Terrorism Studies at the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (HCSTPV). She holds a BA in History from Delhi University (Delhi, India), an MA in History from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi, India), and a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (London, UK). She joined CSTPV as a Research Fellow in 2008 and was appointed Lecturer in 2010. She has regional expertise in both the Middle East and South Asia and is fluent in Hindi and Urdu with a working knowledge of Arabic. Her primary areas of interest include the role of nationalism, culture and religion (especially political Islam) in the promulgation of political violence and terrorism, most particularly suicide terrorism. While her research focuses mainly upon violent groups engaged in campaigns of national independence (Hamas, LTTE etc.) she also works on transnational terrorist groups (Al Qaeda) and dedicated Islamist proxies (Lashkar-i-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad etc.). Dr. Singh has conducted extensive fieldwork in the Middle East and her recent book, Hamas and Suicide Terrorism: A Multi-Causal and Multi-Level Approach (Routledge: March 2011; paperback and Kindle editions, January 2012), examines the rise and disappearance of suicide attacks in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She was also the primary investigator in the recently finished START-funded project, In the Eyes of the Beholder, which developed metrics of success and failure in the Global War on Terror and the Global Jihad. Dr. Singh was awarded the CAPES Foreign Visiting Professorship by the Brazilian Federal Agency for the Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education for 2013?14 during which period she will be associated with the Department of International Relations of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) de Minas Gerais. Dr. Singh is currently also serving as a member of the World Economic Forum?s Global Agenda Council on Terrorism.

Rashmi Singh é professora permanente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Relações Internacionais da PUC Minas e bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CnPQ - Nível 2. É co-fundadora e co-diretora da rede de pesquisa em Terrorismo, Radicalização e Crime Transnacional (TRAC) e Coordenadora do Laboratório de Pesquisa e Projetos em Relações Internacionais da PUC Minas. A profa. Rashmi Singh é uma Anniversary Fellow do Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence of the University of St. Andrews, Escócia e mentora do International Counter-Terrorism Youth Network Mentorship Programme (ICTYN). É editora associada da Perspectives on Terrorism e atua como membro de diversos conselhos editoriais e científicos internacionais tais como o International Journal of Conflict and Violence. A profa. Rashmi Singh é fluente em Inglês, Hindi, Urdu e Português além de possuir conhecimentos de Árabe. Ela conduziu extensivo trabalho de campo no Oriente Médio e seu livro recente Hamas and Suicide Terrorism: A Multi-Causal and Multi-Level Approach, examina o advento e desaparecimento de ataques suicidas no conflito Israeli-Palestino. A profa. Singh também atuou como investigadora principal no recém-concluído projeto In the Eyes of the Beholder financiado pelo START, EUA. O projeto desenvolveu métricas de sucesso e falhas da Guerra Global Contra o Terror e da Jihad Global. Recebeu ainda a bolsa de professora visitante da CAPES e foi Professora de Estudos de Terrorismo do Handa Centre For the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) na Universidade de St. Andrews, Escócia, aonde atuou antes de se tornar Professora Permanente do Programa de Pós-graduação em Relações Internacionais da PUC Minas. A professora Singh, também atuou como membro do World Economic Forum, Global Agenda Council of Terrorism entre 2013 e 2014. Ela tem atuado como consultora, treinadora e professora em várias agências governamentais, organizações internacionais e militares, incluindo cursos para a OTAN, Scottish Police, London Metropolitan Police, The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, The British Home Office e as Forças Armadas Alemãs.
