Volker Wendisch

Wendisch studied biology and received his ?Diplom? (~MSc) with a thesis project in immunogenetics at the Institute of Genetics, Cologne University, Germany. He performed his dissertation on carbon flux analysis using NMR spectroscopy at the Institute of Biotechnology 1, Research Center Jülich, Germany, and in 1997 received the Dr. rer. nat. degree (~PhD) from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Germany. After a research stay at the University of California in Berkeley, CA, USA, working on the development of DNA microarrays for Escherichia coli he headed an independent research group at the Institute of Biotechnology 1, Research Center Jülich, Germany, focussing on global gene regulatory mechanisms of biotechnologically relevant bacteria. In 2004, he completed his ?Habilitation? and received the venia legendi in Microbiology from Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, Germany. He has been member of the ?Zukunftsforum Biotechnologie? of the DECHEMA. From 2006-2009, Volker F. Wendisch held a position as Professor for Metabolic Engineering at Westfalian Wilhelms University Münster, Germany, and from 2008-2009 served as Vice Dean (Finance) of its Department of Biology. In 2009, Volker F. Wendisch accepted the Chair of Genetics of Prokaryotes (www.uni-bielefeld.de/biologie/genetik/) at the Faculty of Biology of Bielefeld University, Germany. Since 2010, Volker F. Wendisch is member of the Executive Board of the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) of Bielefeld University, Germany (www.cebitec.uni-bielefeld.de). Since 2011, Volker F. Wendisch is member of the extended Executive Board of the Cluster of Industrial Biotechnology CLIB2021 in Düsseldorf, Germany (www.clib2021.de/en/clib2021/board). He served as Vice-Chairman Research of the CLIB2021 graduate cluster. From 2014 to 2016, Volker F. Wendisch was Vice Dean of the Faculty for Biology. He was a member of the Senate of Bielefeld University from 2014 to 2018 and from 2016 to 2018 he served as Dean of the Faculty of Biology of Bielefeld University. On May 2nd, 2019, he received the Distinguished Scientist Award of the International Bioprocessing Association - An International Forum on Industrial Bioprocesses. 216 peer-reviewed original publications; 15098 citations and h index 71 according to Google scholar; 14 patents, edited 1 book and more than 20 book chapters; Supervisor of 43 PhD thesis and 25 MSc thesis projects.
