Marcelo Carvalho Loureiro

Marcelo Carvalho Loureiro is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Birmingham. Marcelo holds a LLB and a PGDip in Human Rights from Coimbra University, a Laurea Specialistica in Crossing the Mediterranean form the University of Venice, a Master in Human and Social Sciences mention Intervention and Social Development specialisation in Intermediterranean Migrations from the University of Montpellier III and a Master of Arts in Intercultural Mediation from the Autonomous University of Barcelona all of them awarded with first class honours. During his bachelor studies Carvalho Loureiro received scholarships to study at the Faculty of Law, Political Sciences and Administration of the University of Strasbourg and the Faculty of Law of the State University of Rio spending one academic semester in each of them. For his post-graduate studies, he had the chance to do research at the Centre Dynamiques Européennes and the Centre d'Etude et de Recherche sur l'Intervention Sociale at the University of Strasbourg as well as at the Institute for Political and Social Studies at the State University of Rio, developing his master's degree research project in comparative law and politico-legal sciences. His research interests gravitate around the intersection between constitutional theory, comparative law and public law with society, especially regarding the post-modern paradigms of identity indexation, legal cultures, nationality and immigration in post-colonial socio-legal approaches in the contexts of Latin America, the European Union and the Mediterranean area.
