Graduado em MEDICINA pela Universidade Federal do Pará (1986), fez Residência Médica no Departamento de Oftalmologia da Santa Casa de SP (1986) com Research Fellowship pelo California Pacific Medical Center em San Francisco, California sob a orientação do Dr. Richard L. Abbott (1994). Defendeu Tese de Doutorado em Medicina-Ciências da Saúde pela Universidade de São Paulo (2002). Atualmente é cirurgião de córnea e doenças externas do Hospital Oftalmológico de Sorocaba e prática privada na Clínica Oftalmologistas Associados de SP, com enfase em transplantes de córnea penetrante e lamelar anterior e posterior, cirurgia da catarata e cirurgias refrativas. . Tem experiência na área de Medicina, com ênfase em OFTALMOLOGIA, atuando principalmente nos seguintes áreas: reconstrução da superfície ocular, transplante de córnea penetrante e lamelar, olho seco, tumores da superfície ocular, queimaduras oculares, prevenção da cegueira e reabilitação visual e infecção da córnea.É revisor científico dos Arquivos Brasileiros de Oftalmologia, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery e The Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology.Secretário para Língua Portuguesa da Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology de 2007 a 2016. Executive Vice-President da Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology de 2016 a 2020É ainda membro de vários Comitês da PAAO (Comunicação, de Bolsas e Becas, de Nomeação).É membro do Guidelines Committtee do International Council of Ophthalmology. Compôs o Task Advisory Group (TAG) em Córnea e Doenças Externas na elaboração do novo CID-11 junto a World Healt Organization (Suiça).Coordenou a Programação Científica do Joint Meeting da Academia Americana de Oftalmologia/Associação Pan-Americana de Oftalmologia de 2009 em San Francisco, CA, USA.Presidiu o Centro de Estudos Oftalmológicos Jacques Tupinambá do Depto de Oftalmologia da Santa Casa de SP até Julho de 2008Eleito Editor-in-Chief do Vision Pan-America,The Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology, iniciando seu termo em Janeiro de 2012.Em Agosto de 2014, foi nomeado Member, Regional Advisory Committee da American Academy of Ophthalmology (USA).É atualmente Presidente da Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology de 2022-2025, com base em Arlington, Texas, USA

He is currently a corneal surgeon and external diseases staff at the Sorocaba Ophthalmology Hospital, focusing on corneal transplants, cataract surgery and refractive surgeries. . He has experience in the field of Medicine, with emphasis on OPHTHALMOLOGY, working mainly in the following areas: reconstruction of the ocular surface, penetranting and lamellar corneal transplants, dry eye, ocular surface tumors, ocular burns, blindness prevention and visual rehabilitation and cornea.He is a scientific reviewer of the Brazilian Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Vision PanAmerica.He has been Secretary to the Portuguese Language of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology since 2007 and was re-elected until 2013.
