Milton da Costa Lopes Filho

Bacharel e mestre em Matemática pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro e doutor em Matematica pela University of California, Berkeley (1990). Realizou estagios de docencia e pesquisa na Univ. of Houston, Univ. of Kentucky, Indiana University, Penn State University e na U. C. Riverside. Foi Semester Program Visitor do ICERM, Brown University. Foi long-term participant, invitation-only, do Isaac Newton Institute, University of Cambridge, 2022. Foi docente na Universidade Estadual de Campinas de 1992 a 2012, e é atualmente professor titular junto ao Departamento de Matemática Aplicada da UFRJ. Sua pesquisa se concentra na modelagem matemática do movimento de fluidos incompressíveis, principalmente do ponto de vista de análise rigorosa, utilizando técnicas modernas de equacoes diferenciais parciais e análise funcional no tratamento analítico de escoamentos irregulares ou turbulentos. Foi Editor Associado do SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis e do Abstract and Applied Analysis. Foi Vice-Chair do SIAM Activity Group on Analysis of PDE para 2017-2018.

Bachelor and Master in Mathematics from the Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro and PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley (1990). Was visiting professor at the Univ. of Houston, Univ. of Kentucky, Indiana University, Penn State University and the U. C. Riverside. Was Semester Program Visitor of ICERM, Brown University. Was long-term participant, invitation-only, of the Isaac Newton Institute, University of Cambridge, 2022. He was faculty at the State University of Campinas 1992-2012 and is currently a full professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics of IM-UFRJ. His research focuses on mathematical modeling of the motion of incompressible fluids, especially from the point of view of rigorous analysis, using modern techniques of partial differential equations and functional analysis in the analytical treatment of irregular or turbulent flows. He was Associate Editor for SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis and for Abstract and Applied Analysis. Was elected Vice-Chair of the SIAM Activity Group on Analysis of PDE for 2017-2018.
