Francisco Adriano de Souza

Graduated in Agronomic Engineering (1991) and Master Science in Agronomy (1996 - Soil Science with emphasis on Soil Microbiology and Biochemistry), at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. He holds a PhD in Ecology from the University of Leiden (2005), Netherlands, where he develops a research project at the Department of Microbial Ecology of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology - NIOO (2001-2005) - Biology, Ecology and Evolution of the Family Gigasporaceae, Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (Glomeromycota). Post-Doctorate at Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium (2006-2007). He worked as researcher at Pesagro Rio, IAC (1994) and Embrapa Agrobiologia (1994-2009). He is currently a scientific researcher at Embrapa Milho e Sorgo (2009-Current) - Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation. His scientific career focused on understanding the interactions between beneficial microbes and plants, microbial diversity, mycorrhizal symbiosis, soil fertility (phosphorus) and molecular phylogeny. He led national and international projects with several development agencies (CNPq, FAPERJ, FAPEMIG, Market-Place). Currently, he has worked on the following topics: molecular microbial ecology, agricultural biotechnology, development of bioproducts based on beneficial microbes (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi, Trichoderma, Burkholderia), prospecting, isolation and characterization of new strains of fungi and bacteria with biotechnological potential, recovery of degraded areas and organic agriculture.

Possui graduação em Engenharia Agronômica (1991) e Mestrado em Agronomia (1996 - Ciência do Solo com ênfase em Microbiologia e Bioquímica do Solo), pela Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. Doutorado em Ecologia pela Universidade de Leiden (2005), Países Baixos (Holanda), onde desenvolvimento projeto de pesquisa junto ao Departamento de Ecologia Microbiana do Instituto Holandês de Ecologia - NIOO (2001-2005): Biology, Ecology and Evolution of the Family Gigasporaceae, Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (Glomeromycota). Pós-Doutorado pela Université Catholique de Louvain, Bélgica (2006-2007). Foi pesquisador Pesagro-Rio, IAC (1994) e da Embrapa Agrobiologia (1994-2009). Atualmente, é pesquisador científico da Embrapa Milho e Sorgo (2009-Atual) - Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária. Tem a carreira científica focada no entendimento das interações entre plantas e microrganismos benéficos, diversidade microbiana, simbiose micorrízica, fertilidade do solo (fósforo) e filogenia molecular. Liderou projetos nacionais e internacionais junto a diversas agências de fomento (CNPq, FAPERJ, FAPEMIG, Market-Place). Atualmente têm atuado nos seguintes temas: ecologia microbiana molecular, biotecnologia agrícola, desenvolvimento de bioinsumos (Fungos Micorrízicos Arbusculares, Trichoderma, Burkholderia), prospecção, isolamento e caracterização de novas estirpes de fungos e bactérias com potencial biotecnológico, recuperação de áreas degradadas e agricultura orgânica.
