PhD in Physiology, obtained at the School of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of the University of Sao Paulo (FMRP-USP, 1981), supervised by prof Eduardo M Krieger and after that he was awarded with a RHAE-CNPq-scholarship, and enrolled at the University of Iowa,1989-1991, at the laboratory of Michael J Brody, as a Visiting Associate Professor. From 1997 he went back to Iowa City, at the Laboratory of Alan Kim Johnson, where he was enrolled as a Visiting Associate Professor and became skilled on techniques of molecular biology, patch-clamping, cell culture, adenovirus gene transfer and knockout mice, supported by CNPq and doing research with financial support by NASA, NAVY and NIH. In Brazil, he has been a Professor/Researcher/Advisor at the Physiological Sciences of Federal University. In 2019 he completed 40 years of work at that institution which awarded him as a Professor Emeritus. Currently he is a Full Professor at the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program of Vila Velha University (UVV), Brazil. In the Laboratory of Translational Physiology and Pharmacology. In 2022 he was awarded with the title of Professor Honoris Causa at the UVV. He has been focused on mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction, imbalance of ROS/NO and impaired control of cardiovascular function using experimental models of arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis. More recently, he has been dedicated to studies related with gut microbiota and probiotics in cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. Financial support for research projects has been obtained mainly from Facitec (City Agency of Vitoria), Fapes (State agency) and CNPq (Federal Agency). He has been supported by CNPq as Researcher, level 1, for 30 years. Member of the editorial board or the Journal of Translational Medicine (Nutrition and Metabolism section) and Journal of Food Microbiologdy. He was a lead Editor of a special issue of Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity and is a reviewer of several journals. He published 160 international papers listed in the PubMed, including a publication in the JACC (impact factor of 22) and that article has more than 200 citations, he has 3 publications in the Chest and 13 in Hypertension, in which his work was image cover.
