Possui mestrado em Engenharia de Produção pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1994) e doutorado em Engenharia Industrial e de Sistemas pela Rutgers University (State University of New Jersey), obtido em 1997. Realizou pós-doutoramento no Conservatoire National des Arts et Metiers (Paris, França) em 2005-2006. Atualmente é professor titular do Departamento de Engenharia de Produção e Transportes da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. É professor do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia de Produção da UFRGS. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Produção, com ênfase em Engenharia da Qualidade, Análise da Produção e Pesquisa Operacional, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: gestão de operações em saúde, controle multivariado de processo, otimização experimental, análise de confiabilidade, customização em massa e métodos quantitativos para gestão da produção. Recebeu o best paper award da IIE Transactions em 2002, o Best Conference Paper na IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management em 2008, teve artigos premiados nas edições de 2010 (Rotterdam, Holanda) e 2012 (Rennes, França) da Sensometrics Conference e recebeu o Best Conference Presentation Award na Int. Conference on Food Processing and Technology, em Londres, em 2018. Recebeu menção honrosa por orientação de doutorado pela Capes em 2009. Sua pesquisa vem sendo publicada nos periódicos International Journal of Production Research, IIE Transactions, International Journal of Production Economics, Production Planning and Control, Food Quality Preference, Chemometrics e Int J of Medical Informatics, entre outras. É membro do conselho editorial dos periódicos International Journal of Operations Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, Gestão Produção, Revista Produção, e Gestão Industrial. É editor associado do periódico International Journal of Operations Production Management. Atuou como membro do comitê assessor das Engenharias III na Capes entre 2009 e 2016. Atuou como membro do CEPE da UFRGS (2016-2020). Atuou como membro Titular do Comitê Assessor da área de Engenharia de Produção do CNPq de 2018 a 2021. Recebeu o Prêmio Pesquisador Gaúcho da área de Engenharia da FAPERGS em 2022. Possui um h-index de 26 e 3912 citações a trabalhos de sua autoria (Base Scopus, Agosto de 2023).
Prof. Flavio S. Fogliatto holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Rutgers University, USA (1997). He was visiting scholar at the CNAM (Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers Paris, France) in 20052006. Currently he is Full Professor at the IE Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and Graduate Program in Industrial Engineering in that same institution. He also served a 4-mandate as President of FEEng, UFRGS School of Engineering Foundation. His expertise is in the fields of Operations Research Management. His main research interests are: healthcare operations management, quality control and optimization of products and processes, mass customization, and quantitative methods in production control. He received the IIE Transactions best paper award in 2002, the 2008 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Best Conference Paper award, best papers awards at the 2010 (Rotterdam, Holand) and 2012 (Rennes, France) editions of the Sensometrics Conference, and Best Conference Presentation Award at the International Conference on Food Processing and Technology, London, in 2018. His research has been published in the International Journal of Production Research, IIE Transactions, Production Planning and Control, Food Quality Preference, Chemometrics, Int J of Medical Informatics, and International Journal of Production Economics, among others. He is member of the editorial boards of IJOPM and IJPE, among others. He is Associate Editor of IJOPM. He served as member of the advisory committees at CAPES (Brazilian Ministry of Education) from 2009 to 2016, and CNPq (Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology) from 2018 to 2021. He is the recipient of the 2022 Research in Engineering Lifetime Achievement Award issued by FAPERGS (Rio Grande do Sul Research Foundation). His h-index, measured in August 2023, is 26; his work has been cited 3,912 times (Scopus, 2023).
