BSc and MSc in Physics from Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1989 and 1991). PhD in Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics from the Universität Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhems-Universität) (1997). Postdoctoral fellow, Yale University (1998). Since 1999 Associate Professor at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Visiting Professor at the Universities of Würzburg (2006), Duisburg-Essen (since 2002), Jena (2016), TU-Berlin (2018), the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (2010) and the Applied Mathematics Research Centre, Coventry (2014). Fellow of the Alexander-von-Humboldt Foundation and the Leverhulme Trust. Areas of interest: Statistical and Mathematical Physics, Network Theory applied to the Humanities, History and Philosophy of Physics, Popularization of Science, Translation.

Professor visitante da Universidade de Würzburg (2006), Duisburg-Essen (desde 2002), Jena (2016) e Technische Universität Berlin (2018) pela Fundação Alexander von Humboldt (Alexander-von-Humboldt Stiftung). É colaborador do Instituto Max Planck para História da Ciência de Berlim (MPIWG) e do Centro de Pesquisa em Matemática Aplicada (AMRC) da Universidade de Coventry. Áreas de interesse: física estatística e matemática, redes complexas aplicadas às Humanidades, história e filosofia da física, divulgação científica e tradução.
