Fernanda Bono Fukushima

I Graduated in Medicine at the Botucatu Medical School - UNESP (2001). I completed my medical residency training in Anesthesiology (2004) and Pain (2005) at the same institution, as well as a PhD in Anesthesiology (2008) and professorship in Antalgic Therapy and Palliative Care (2022). I hold the title of specialist in Anesthesiology, Pain and Palliative Medicine by the Brazilian Medical Association. I work as an associate professor in the discipline of Antalgic Therapy and Palliative Care (beginning in 2010) and as a permanent professor of the Graduate Programs in Anesthesiology (beginning in 2014) and Clinical Research (beginning in 2020) at the Botucatu Medical School - UNESP. I was co-responsible for the research on the cross-cultural adaptation of the Physician form Orders for Life- Sustaining Treatment (POLST), providing a foundation for the implementation of the POLST Paradigm in Brazil as a strategy to improve end-of-life care in the country by promoting the alignment between the values and preferences of care of patients with their health treatments through Advance Care Planning. I was the first author of a review article on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome published in the prestigious British Medical Journal and co-author of the book entitled ?Use of the subcutaneous route in pediatrics? published by the National Academy of Palliative Care. I coordinate the Pediatric Palliative Care outpatient clinic at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Botucatu Medical School and am responsible for the palliative care branch of the Fetal Medicine outpatient clinic at the same institution. Additionally, I serve as a member of the Palliative Medicine Commission of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology and the Pain and Palliative Care Group of the Anesthesiology Society of the State of São Paulo. May main line of research is titled ?Pain and Palliative Care?.

Possui graduação em Medicina pela Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu ? UNESP (2001). Concluiu a residência médica em Anestesiologia (2004) e em Dor (2005) na mesma instituição, bem como o doutorado em Anestesiologia (2008) e a Livre-docência em Terapia Antálgica e Cuidados Paliativos (2022). Possui título de especialista em Anestesiologia com área de atuação em Dor e Medicina Paliativa pela Associação Médica Brasileira. Atua como professora associada junto à disciplina de Terapia Antálgica e Cuidados Paliativos (início em 2010) e docente permanente dos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Anestesiologia (início em 2014) e Pesquisa Clínica (início em 2020) da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu ? UNESP. Foi corresponsável pela pesquisa de adaptação transcultural do formulário Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST), onde foi construída a base para que o Paradigma POLST possa ser implantado no Brasil como uma estratégia para melhorar os cuidados de fim de vida no País através da promoção do alinhamento entre valores e preferências de cuidado de pacientes com seus tratamentos de saúde por meio do Planejamento Antecipado de Cuidados. Foi a primeira autora de um artigo de revisão sobre a Síndrome de Dor Complexa Regional publicado no prestigioso British Medical Journal e coautora do livro intitulado ?Uso da via subcutânea em pediatria? publicado pela Academia Nacional de Cuidados Paliativos. Coordena o ambulatório de Cuidados Paliativos Pediátricos do Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu e participa como responsável pela assistência em cuidados paliativos do ambulatório de Medicina Fetal da mesma instituição. Adicionalmente, atua como membro da Comissão de Medicina Paliativa da Sociedade Brasileira de Anestesiologia e do Núcleo de Dor e Cuidados Paliativos da Sociedade de Anestesiologia do Estado de São Paulo. Sua principal linha de pesquisa tem como título ?Dor e Cuidados Paliativos?.
