Clive Ruggles
I am Emeritus Professor of Archaeoastronomy in the School of Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Leicester, UK. I worked in many parts of the world and published numerous books, papers and articles on subjects ranging from prehistoric Europe and pre-Columbian America to indigenous astronomies in Africa and elsewhere. I have ongoing fieldwork projects in Peru and Polynesia and am also working to complete a major synthesis of archaeoastronomy in Europe.Since 2008 I have also been working on behalf of UNESCO and the International Astronomical Union to advance their joint initiative to promote, preserve, and protect the world s most important astronomical heritage sites. I chair the International Working Group on Astronomy and World Heritage and direct UNESCO s Astronomy and World Heritage web portal project.
