Jorge Manuel Rodrigues Tavares has a degree in Animal Science Engineering (2008) from Higher Institute of Agronomy ? Technical University of Lisbon, with equivalence in Brazil by Federal University of Santa Catarina (2018). His scientific collaboration began in 2005/2006, by coordinating the field team in the project ?Determination of emissions (for air and water) in the national pig industry?, supported by Portuguese Environment Agency. To obtain his degree in Engineering (2008) the research with the title ?Study of the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation process in slurry from pig farms? has been presented. In the current of 2009 received an honorable mention as best student in the course of Animal Science Engineering (pre-Bologna, 05 years). From 2010 till 2016, Jorge Tavares carried out his master?s and doctorate degrees developing to research projects (research line: sustainable animal production), a partnership between Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Swine & Poultry, Union of Meat Industry and Derivate from Santa Catarina State, and Federal University of Santa Catarina. The thesis ?Water disappearance and manure production in pig farms? (MSc) and ?Modeling of water disappearance, manure production, greenhouse gases emissions and ammonia in pig farms (PhD) were presented in 2012 and 2016, respectively. Both Thesis have been used to update the Brazilian reference values for pig production and the licensing laws in the State of Santa Catarina. It is important to note that the lack of information regarding Brazilian emission factors inside housing buildings was also fulfilled. A technical book (1) and videos (2) were performed to distribute to technicians and producers. Innovative mathematical models to predict the water disappearance and the manure production were developed and presented considering the production characteristics and environmental conditions of pig farming in Brazil. In the course of 2017 accepted the invitation to coordinate the new research and innovation laboratory in Agriness Information Systems and Technologies, world leading company in information management in pigs. The University of Lisbon by Higher Institute of Agronomy has recognized his doctor title of Environmental Engineering in 2018. Since 2019, he is invited lecturer at Polytechnic Institute of Beja - School of Agriculture.
