Barbara Oughton Baptista

Eduational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Education from Pennsylvania State University (1968), a Master's degree in English Language and Literature from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1981), A Master's in Spanish from San Diego State University (1971) and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from University of California at Los Angeles (1992). Retired as Professor Associado from the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina in 2009, but continued to contribute to the Graduate Program in English Language and Literature until 2011. Experience has been in the area of Applied Linguistics, carrying out and advising research in the learning and teaching of foreign, language, principally in the areas of learning, teaching, perceptioin and production of the phonetics and phonology of English by Brazilians, with focus mainly on vowels and the syllable.

Possui graduação em Educação - Pennsylvania State University (1968), mestrado em Letras (Inglês e Literatura Correspondente) pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (1981), mestrado em Espanhol - San Diego State University (1971) e doutorado em Lingüística Aplicada - University of California Los Angeles (1992). Aposentou-se como professor associado II da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina em 2009, mas continuou como membro participante da Pós-Graduação em Inglês e Literatura Correspondente dessa instituição até 2011 inclusive. Trabalhou na área de Lingüística Aplicada, na linha de pesquisa Aprendizagem e Ensino de Língua Estrangeira, atuando principalmente nas áreas de aprendizagem, ensino, percepção e produção da fonética e fonologia da língua inglesa por brasileiros, focando principalmente nas vogais e a sílaba.
