A Medical Doctor graduated from the Federal Faculty of Medical Sciences Foundation in Porto Alegre (1990), he is a Specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology (SBOT) and a Physician Specialist in Physiatry (ABMFR). Founding Member of the SBOT Sports Traumatology Committee in 1990, currently called SBRATE (Brazilian Society of Arthroscopy and Sports Trauma) and has carried out research in these areas since 1994. Specialized in Knee Surgery and conducted the Ambulatory of Hospital da Lagoa for 3 years (1994-1997). He obtained a Master's degree in Orthopedics (MSc) with his studies in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1999), where he continued his university extension in the area of Ankle and Foot Surgery and human gait analysis ( 2001). Doctorate (PhD) in Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) in 3D biokinetic analysis of human movement. Professor of Orthopedics created and coordinated, voluntarily and unpaid, the Graduate Program in Upper Limb Reconstructive Surgery at Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro (11th Ward / 1999-2010), training more than 40 specialists and researchers in Brazil and foreigners. In 2010 he received the PPCR Award from the Department of Continuing Education at Harvard Medical School for his postgraduate performance in Principles in Clinical Research. In 2019 he received the Michael Freeman Award which is the highest European merit of 'Excellence in Biomechanics of the Knee' for the studies presented at the congress of the European Federation of National Associations Orthpedics and Traumatology (EFORT).
Currently, in addition to his private clinic, he intensely dedicates his knowledge to leading the progress of orthopedic science in Brazil and worldwide, always on a philanthropic and non-remunerated basis. Thus, he presides over the Department of Invasive Therapeutics of the ABMFR, with the goal of promoting the technical training of physiatrists in outpatient interventionist approaches. He chairs the ABMFR Three-Dimensional Biokinetic Analysis Committee. He is the Academic-Scientific Director of the Brazilian Association of Ankle and Foot Surgery and Medicine (ABTPÉ). He is Vice President of the RUSH-IBTS International Fellowship Program at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush in Chicago, USA. He is the Chief Scientist (CSO) of the Instituto Brasil de Tecnologias da Saúde (IBTS) which he founded in 2008 with his friend Jorge Paulo Lemann, coordinating and acting directly in the lines of research: Three-dimensional Biokinetic Analysis for identifying the causes of orthopedic problems and helping to the physician for a clearer functional diagnosis, a more assertive therapeutic decision, a more objective physical rehabilitation and the prevention of less efficient orthopedic injuries. Médico formado pela Fundação Faculdade Federal de Ciências Médicas de Porto Alegre (1990) é Especialista em Ortopedia e Traumatologia (SBOT) e Médico Especialista em Fisiatria (ABMFR). Membro Fundador do Comitê de Traumatologia Esportiva da SBOT em 1990, atualmente denominado de SBRATE (Sociedade Brasileira de Artroscopia e Trauma do Esporte) e realiza pesquisas nestas áreas desde 1994. Se espacializou em Cirurgia do Joelho e conduziu o Ambulatório do Hospital da Lagoa por 3 anos (1994-1997). Obteve o título de Mestre em Ortopedia (MSc) com seus estudos da Cirurgia do Ombro e Cotovelo pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1999), onde seguiu sua extensão universitária na área da Cirurgia do Tornozelo e Pé e da análise da marcha humana (2001). Doutorado (PhD) em Medicina na Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP) em análises biocinéticas 3D do movimento humano. Professor de Ortopedia criou e coordenou, voluntariamente e não-remunerado, a Pós-Graduação em Cirurgia Reconstrutiva do Membro Superior na Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Rio de Janeiro (11ª Enfermaria / 1999-2010), formando mais de 40 especialistas e pesquisadores do Brasil e estrangeiros. Em 2010 recebeu o PPCR Award pelo Departamento de Educação Continuada de Harvard Medical School, pelo seu desempenho na pós-graduação de Principles in Clinical Research. Em 2019 recebeu Michael Freeman Award que é o mais alto mérito europeu de 'Excelência em Biomecânica do Joelho' pelos estudos apresentados no congresso da European Federation of National Associations Orthpedics and Traumatology (EFORT).
Atualmente, além de sua clínica privada, dedica intensamente seu conhecimento para liderar o progresso da ciência ortopédica brasileira e mundial, sempre em caráter filantrópico e não-remunerado. Assim, preside o Departamento de Terapêuticas Invasivas da ABMFR tendo como meta promover a capacitação técnica dos médicos Fisiatras nas abordagens intervencionistas ambulatoriais. Preside o Comitê de Análises Biocinéticas Tridimensinais da ABMFR. É o Diretor Acadêmico-Científico da Associação Brasileira de Cirurgia e Medicina do Tornozelo e Pé (ABTPÉ). É Vice-Presidente do RUSH-IBTS International Fellowship Program na Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, em Chicago, Estados Unidos. É o Cientista Chefe (CSO) do Instituto Brasil de Tecnologias da Saúde (IBTS) que fundou em 2008 com seu amigo Jorge Paulo Lemann, coordenando e atuando diretamente nas linhas de pesquisa: Análises Biocinéticas Tridimenssionais para a identificação das causas dos problemas ortopédicos e auxiliar ao médico para um diagnóstico funcional mais claro, uma decisão terapêutica mais assertiva, uma reabiltação física mais objetiva e uma prevenção de lesões ortopédicas mis eficientes.
