Mauro Sérgio Ferreira Santos
Dr. Ferreira Santos is a Caltech postdoctoral researcher at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and he joined PICASSO program (Microfluidic Ion Analyzer) under supervision of Dr. Maria F. Mora. He received his B.S. in Chemistry and a Specialization in Technological Chemistry from the UNIFIEO (Brazil) in 2008 and 2010, respectively. In 2012 and 2016 he got his Master's and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry), respectively, from University of Sao Paulo (USP, Brazil) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ivano G. R. Gutz. From 04/2015 to 03/2016, he was an exchange visitor at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Clemson University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carlos D. Garcia. And from 02/2017 to 12/2017 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sao Paulo under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thiago R. L. C. Paixão. He has been working in the development of electrochemical cells and electroanalytical techniques to carry out preconcetration, electrochemical derivatization and online sample cleanup for electrophoretic separation (CE) with contactless conductivity detection (C4D). He also has been working in the miniaturization of analytical systems, microchip capillary electrophoresis and in the development of microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (uPADs). Currently, his main topic is astrobiological signatures, development of protocols for searching for life beyond the earth.
graduation at Bacharelado e Licenciatura em Química from Centro Universitário FIEO (2008), master's at Química (Química Analítica) from Universidade de São Paulo (2012) and doctorate at Chemistry from Universidade de São Paulo (2016). Has experience in Chemistry, acting on the following subjects: electrochemical derivatization, capillary electrophoresis, microchip electrophoresis, especiação and microfluidics.
