Mario Barbatti is an expert on the development and application of mixed quantum-classical dynamics to study molecular excited states. He is also the designer and one of the main developers of the Newton-X program.
He held a chair of excellence AMidex at the Aix Marseille University between 2015 and 2019, where he is a professor of chemistry since 2015. In 2019, he was awarded an ERC advanced grant to coordinate the SubNano project. In 2021, he was nominated senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France and elected fellow of the European Academy of Sciences.
Mario Barbatti earned a Ph.D. in physics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2001. In 2008, he was granted a Habilitation (Privatdozent) to teach quantum chemistry at the University of Vienna, where he worked with Hans Lischka from 2003 to 2010.
From 2010 to 2015, he was a group leader at the Max Planck Institut für Kohlenforschung in Mülheim, Germany.
