I was raised in the country of Santa Catarina State, beginning my life in Ituporanga, Rio do Sul, Timbó, Mafra, Balneario Camboriú, Blumenau, and moving to Florianópolis in 1975. Actually, I work as a Research and Project Manager for the Ekko Brazil Institute, located in the south of Santa Catarina Island, south of Brazil. My academic background is constituted in a BS in Oceanography, obtained at the Federal University of Rio Grande, completed in 1986. In addition, I completed a Master in Hydroecology obtained from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, finalized in 1990. After, I left Brazil and went to England, with a British Council Scholarship Award, where I got an M.Sc. in Tropical Coastal Management at Newcastle University, finished in 1993. From England, I went to Australia with a Scholarship Award from the Australian Government, Flinders University, and CNPq-Brazil, where I obtained a Ph.D. degree in Physical Oceanography from Flinders University in 2000. In 2012, I got another Master degree in Project Management from the Senac University in Brazil. Due to my international experience in the UK and Australia, I have fluent speaking and writing English. From 2014 to 2015, I was a Research Visitor at the University of Florida, Center for Wetland, Department of Engineering, working in energetic modeling of ecosystems.
I also have professional experience working for the Environment Foundation of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in the activities of licensing activities in marine areas and research on aquatic mammals from 1986 to 1992. Since 2000, when I returned to Brazil, I lecture and research in various private and public universities in the courses of Oceanography, Biology, Biotechnology, Ecology and Environmental Engineering. Since 2008 I am working in the Ekko Brazil Institute, a non-governmental organization focused on research, environmental education and social mobilization as a Project and Research Manager, where I had the opportunity to put into practice the good PMBOK practices for managing multiple projects.
In addition, to these projects I was responsible for implementing the first and only Latin America Scientific Breeding for Research of the Mustelidae family. Over the past 10 years, I have worked with animal research in captivity and in the wild, in two major Brazilian biomes: the Coastal Zone of Atlantic Forest and the Pantanal. Due to the excellent results obtained I was invited to coordinate the Neotropical Otter Sub-group in Latin America by the IUCN (The International Union for Conservation of Nature). In parallel, I created the Ecovolunteer Program within the Ekko Brasil Institute, based on a new concept of tourism, Conservation Tourism. As a result, people from all around the world come to participate in the Projeto Lontra, one of the projects I created and coordinate.
During my professional and academic career, I have received some awards such as the Professional Talent in 2012, Expression in Ecology in 2008 and I was appointed to the Brazilian Immortal Prize in 2008.
