Graduated in Dentistry at UFRN (1994), master's degree in Oral Pathology at UFRN (1999), doctorate in Dentistry/Oral Pathology at USP (2003) and post-doctorate fellowship at University of Toronto (2004-2006). He is currently a Professor at the Department of Morphology and the Graduate Programs in Oral Sciences at Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). In this institution he also plays the leading role of the Research Group in Craniofacial Biology. He is also a member of the editorial board and referee of several national and international journals. He has experience in Morphology, Developmental Biology and Oral Pathology, working especially on the following topics: stem cells, photobiomodulation, biomaterials, bio-integration and tissue regeneration.

Atualmente é Professor Titular do Departamento de Morfologia e do Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Odontológicas da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Nesta instituição exerce também a função de líder do Grupo de Pesquisa em Biologia Crânio-Facial. É membro de corpo editorial e parecerista de diversos periódicos nacionais e internacionais. Tem experiência nas áreas de Morfologia, Biologia do Desenvolvimento e Patologia Bucal, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: biologia das células-tronco, fotobiomodulação, biomateriais, biointegração e regeneração tecidual.
