Ernesto Villar Cociña

Ernesto Villar Cociña graduated with a degree in Physics (1984), a Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (2006) and a Full Professor from the Central University of Las Villas (UCLV), Cuba. The professor has advised undergraduate, master's and doctoral students both at his university and students from other universities in Latin America. He is a researcher with extensive experience in the study and modeling of kinetic processes in construction and metal materials, in the characterization of agro-industrial waste used as additives in the manufacture of cement and concrete. He has also worked on transport phenomena in concrete and other granular materials. He has carried out important research in the study of the pozzolanic reaction kinetics as well as in the absorption kinetics of water and other aggressive agents in concrete and other granulated materials, developing mathematical models that allow the calculation of the kinetic parameters of the process. He has published in recent years around 50 articles in mainstream journals from the Science Citation Index of the Web of Science, as well as around 40 in international peer-reviewed event proceedings. He has participated in international and national projects on issues of importance to his country. He has been a member of the scientific committee of numerous important international events, and is a reviewer for several high-impact international Web of Science journals. He has obtained several awards from the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC) which includes the Annual National Award of the Cuban Academy of Sciences (2010) as Principal Author.
