Gelza Matos Nunes Pemberton

Bachelor of Arts (1996) and master?s degree in Linguistics (2000) from the University of São Paulo (1996). Experience in Linguistic Theory and Analysis, with research focused on the Semantic Syntax Interface - grammatical theory, generative theory, Portuguese syntax, and adjectives. Later I decided to change the area of knowledge to the health care area, obtaining a master's degree in Nursing from the University of Tennessee (2006). I Worked as a clinical nurse at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in the MICU; as nursing instructor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and nursing faculty at Howard University in Washington. I also became a Reiki therapist at the George Washington Center of Integrative Medicine. In 2017, I entered into the PhD program at the College of Medicine of Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), where I conduct research in the areas of Health Promotion, Violence Prevention and Complementary and Integrative Medicine. In the years of 2018 and 2019 I did work as Coordinator of Complementary and Integrative Medicine Policy in the Health Bureau of the state of Minas Gerais (PICs). Now I am in the board of the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health as one of the directors.

É bacharel em Letras com habilitação em Português e Latim pela Universidade de São Paulo (1996). Tem mestrado em Linguística também pela Universidade de São Paulo (2000). Decidiu posteriormente mudar de área de conhecimento e se dedicar ao setor de saúde, obtendo o mestrado em Enfermagem pela University of Tennessee (2006). Atuou como enfermeira clinica no Johns Hopkins Hospital em Baltimore na área de UTI; como professora de enfermagem na Johns Hopkins University, em Baltimore e na Howard University, em Washington e como terapeuta mestre de Reiki no George Washington Center of Integrative Medicine. PhD pela Faculdade de Medicina da UFMG (2023), onde realiza pesquisa nas áreas de Promoção da Saúde, Prevenção da Violência e Práticas Integrativas e Complementares em Saúde. Na Secretaria de Saúde de MG, atuou como Coordenadora da Política de Práticas Integrativas e Complementares (PICs) e Tutora de Programa Saúde em Rede em parceria com o PROADI/Albert Einstein Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa. Foi diretora do Consórcio Brasileiro de Saúde Integrativa (CABSIN) e fundadora e gestora de conteúdo da Comunidade de PICS no IdeiaSUS/Fiocruz em 2021. Prestou serviços de atualização de mapas de evidencia para BIREME/BVS/OPAS/OMS e desenvolvimento de relatos de experiencia em saúde digital. Atualmente atua como Coordenadora da Area de Saúde na UnitedHealth Group - Optum em Philadelphia, nos EUA.
