Bruno Magalhães

He is a professor at the Institute of International Relations and Defence at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He was a professor at the Institute of International Relations (IRI) of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). He was a post-doctoral researcher at the same institution and also in Science and Technology Studies (STS) at the University of Amsterdam. He holds a PhD in Political Science and International Studies from the Open University in the UK, with a full doctoral scholarship on merit from CAPES. He holds a BA and MSc in International Relations from IRI/PUC-Rio. He was executive coordinator of the project to implement the Digital Humanities Laboratory at PUC-Rio. He was co-coordinator of IRI's Methodology Laboratory and co-editor-in-chief of the journal Cadernos de Relações Internacionais. He was a teaching fellow in the Philosophy department at the University of London, Queen Mary, a research associate at the Centre for Citizenship, Identities and Governance (CCIG) at the Open University and at the Centre for Research on Socio-Cultural Chance (CRESC) at the University of Manchester. He was also coordinator of the working group on ethnography and situated knowledge of the International Collaboratory on Critical Methods for Security Studies, funded by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). He was also a member of the editorial team of the journal International Political Sociology. His research interests lie mainly in the area of human migration studies (status determination, security and migration, border control and practices of inclusion and exclusion of the foreigner). His research is also guided by a strong interest in literature on the history, philosophy and sociology of science, with an emphasis on the areas of Science and Technology Studies and Social Science Methodology. Recent publications include articles in the journals International Political Sociology and Security Dialogue, as well as several chapters in edited books, and he is currently under contract for a book with Palgrave.

Foi também coordenador do grupo de trabalho sobre etnografia e conhecimento situado do International Collaboratory on Critical Methods for Security Studies, financiado pelo Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) do Reino Unido. Foi ainda membro da equipe editorial da revista International Political Sociology. Seus interesses de pesquisa recaem principalmente na área de estudos sobre migração humana (determinação de status, segurança e migração, controle de fronteiras e práticas de inclusão e exclusão do estrangeiro). Sua pesquisa é guiada também por um forte interesse pela literatura sobre história, filosofia e sociologia da ciência, com ênfase nas áreas de Estudos da Ciência e Tecnologia e Metodologia das Ciências Sociais. Publicações recentes incluem artigos na revista International Political Sociology e Security Dialogue, além de diversos capítulos em livros editados, e está em contrato para livro autoral com a editora Palgrave.
