NATHAN MENDES

Nathan Mendes concluiu seu doutoramento em Engenharia Mecânica pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina em colaboração com o Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory em 1997. Atualmente, é professor titular, Diretor Institucional de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná e coordenador do projeto institucional de Excelência no Stricto Sensu. Recebeu o Prêmio Jovem Cientista em 2002, é membro dos corpos editoriais do Journal of Building Physics, do Journal of Building Performance Simulation e Conference Papers in Energy. Possui patentes e registro de software e atua como revisor de mais de 11 periódicos e como membro integrante dos Anexos 41 (2004-2008), 55 (2009-2013), 60 (2013-2017), 68 (2017-2020) e 86 (2021-2025) da Agência Internacional de energia (IEA). Coordenou o Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Mecânica da PUCPR de 2006 a 2011, foi presidente da Associação regional da International Building Performance Simulation Association (IBPSA), representante brasileiro junto à IBPSA-World desde 2005 e diretor regional da ASBRAV (2001-2008). Atua na área de Engenharia Mecânica, com ênfase em energia, transferência de calor e umidade em elementos porosos utilizados em construções, modelagem e análise experimental de sistemas de climatização, eficiência energética de edificações e simulação de desempenho higrotérmico e energético de edificações. Tem proferido palestras de plenária em congressos internacionais, participado de bancas de conclusão e de concursos internacionais e atuado como membro de comitês assessores de órgãos de fomento ou como consultor ad-hoc de projetos nacionais e internacionais.

Nathan Mendes got his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in collaboration with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, USA, in 1997. He is currently full professor and director of graduate studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná and coordinator of the institutional project of Excellence in Stricto Sensu. He received the Young Scientist Award in 2002, and he is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Building Physics and the Journal of Building Performance Simulation. He has more than 80 journal papers and 180 conference papers, 5 patent requirements and software registration and acts as a reviewer of more than 11 peer-reviewed journals and as a member of International Energy Agency Annexes (41, 55, 60 and 68). He coordinated the Post-Graduation Program in Mechanical Engineering at PUCPR from 2006 to 2011, was the president of the Brazilian regional IBPSA (International Association of Building Performance Simulation Association), Brazilian representative at the IBPSA-World since 2005 and the regional director of ASBRAV. He works in the area of Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on energy, heat and moisture through porous building elements, modeling and experimental analysis of heating and air conditioning systems, energy efficiency of buildings and building simulation. He has participated in national and international advisory committees for evaluation of research projects.
