Leonardo Leal Esteves

Doutor pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (PPGA-UFPE) e Mestre em Antropologia pela mesma instituição. Realiza atualmente estágio pós-doutoral no International Postdoctoral Program do Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento (IPP-CEBRAP) e é Professor Colaborador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (PPGA-UFS). Foi Professor substituto do Departamento de Antropologia e Museologia da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (DAM-UFPE). Realizou, além disso, estágio pós-doutoral, como bolsista PNPD/CAPES, no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Antropologia (PPGA-UFS) e foi Professor Substituto do Departamento de Ciências Sociais da Universidade Federal de Sergipe (DCS-UFS). Foi Coordenador de Pesquisa e Documentação do Museu Paço do Frevo. Fez parte do quadro efetivo da Secretaria de Patrimônio e Cultura de Olinda. Participou de diversas pesquisas e inventários no campo do patrimônio cultural imaterial, junto ao Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN). Atuou como parecerista em comissões para avaliação de projetos e premiações na Fundação do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico de Pernambuco (FUNDARPE). Foi vencedor do Concurso Nacional de Pesquisa sobre Cultura Afro-Brasileira, Comunidades Tradicionais e Cultura Afro-Latina, realizado pela Fundação Cultural Palmares, por sua dissertação de Mestrado sobre os maracatus do Recife. Tem interesses em temas como teoria antropológica, etnografia, antropologia urbana, antropologia econômica, antropologia do Estado, rituais e festas, cultura popular, expressões culturais afrodiaspóricas, turismo, museus, patrimônio e políticas culturais. É membro da Associação Brasileira de Antropologia - ABA.

I received my Ph.D. from the Graduate Program in Anthropology of the Federal University of Pernambuco (PPGA-UFPE) and my M.A. in Anthropology from the same institution. I work currently as a researcher at the International Postdoctoral Program do Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento (IPP-CEBRAP) and as a collaborator professor of the Graduate Program in Anthropology of the Federal University of Sergipe (PPGA-UFS). I have worked recently as a Substitute Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Museology at the Federal University of Pernambuco. Besides that, I have also worked for two years as an undergraduate temporary professor in the Social Sciences Department at the Federal University of Sergipe (DCS-UFS) and I was a fellow of the National Post-Doctoral Program of the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (PNPD/CAPES) in Brazil. For over ten years, I have been developing research on the universe of so-called "popular cultures" in Brazil, related to issues such as social inequalities, race, and cultural policies. Besides, I had different work experiences in research activities related to urban anthropology, anthropology of the State, anthropological theory. rites, museology, and Brazilian cultural heritage. I was one of the winners of the National Contest of Research on Afro-Brazilian Culture, Traditional Communities, and Afro-Latin Culture of the Fundação Cultural Palmares, the public agency responsible for policies of promotion of Afro-Brazilian culture and racial equality in Brazil, for my M.A. dissertation in 2010. A few years ago, I worked as a coordinator for a Research and Documentation Center at Paço do Frevo, an important museum in my city, related to a Brazilian artistic expression comprising music and dance, inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. I have also contributed to several types of research on intangible heritage for the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional IPHAN, responsible for coordinating national policies on heritage in my country. Moreover, Im a member of the Brazilian Association of Anthropologists - ABA.
