Cesar Roberto de Farias Azevedo

Graduated (1982-86) and Master (1989-91) in Metallurgical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (EPUSP). Specialist in Metal Casting Technology from the Government Industrial Research Institute Nagoya (Japan, 1990-91), PhD from Imperial College (London, 1991-96) and Associate Professor in Metallic Materials from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (2018, EPUSP). During his graduation, he worked as an educator for the Adults Literacy Program of São Paulo Town Hall (1983-85). He was an intern and researcher at the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo (IPT, 1987 to 2006), where he worked in the refining of stainless steel (AOD process), in metal casting and the heat treatment of cast iron. He also chaired the Metallography and Failure Analysis Laboratory (1996 to 2006). He is currently an Associate Professor (since 2006) at the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, teaching Phase Transformation; Physical Metallurgy; and Materials Selection, and investigating the "Relationship between the properties, microstructure and performance of metallic components", focusing on phase transformation and failure analysis. Prof. Azevedo was the associate editor of the Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier, UK) from 2012 to 2021. Now is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. . Finally, Prof. Azevedo has been listed among the 100 top scientists at the University of São Paulo since 2019 (PLoS Biology).

Realizou o ensino fundamental na rede pública do estado de São Paulo: EEPG Prof. Brasílio Machado (Vila Madalena) e EESG Prof. Manuel Ciridião Buarque (Lapa). Possui graduação (1982-86) e mestrado (1989-91) em Engenharia Metalúrgica pela Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo (EPUSP). Especialista em Metal Casting Technology pelo Government Industrial Research Institute Nagoya (Japão, 1990-91), PhD pelo Imperial College (Londres, 1991-96) e livre-docência em materiais metálicos pela Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo (2018, EPUSP) . Trabalhou como educador de adultos para a Prefeitura Municipal de São Paulo durante a graduação (1983-85). Foi estagiário e pesquisador do Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas do Estado de São Paulo (1987 a 2006), onde atou no refino de aço inoxidável (processo AOD), na fundição de metais e no tratamento térmico de ferros fundidos. Coordenou o Laboratório de Metalografia e Análise de Falhas do IPT (1996 a 2006). Atualmente é Professor Associado do Departamento de Engenharia Metalúrgica e de Materiais da Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo, onde coordena as disciplinas de Transformações de Fases; Metalurgia Física; e Seleção de Materiais. Investiga a "Relação entre as propriedades, a microestrutura e desempenho de componentes metálicos", com foco em mecanismos de degradação de metais, análise de falhas e otimização microestrutural. Atuou como editor associado do periódico Engineering Failure Analysis (Elsevier, UK) de 2012 a 2021. A partir de 2022, Prof. Azevedo é o editor chefe (EiC) do periódico Engineering Failure Analysis; Faz parte da lista dos 100 pesquisadores mais influentes da USP desde 2019 (PLoS Biology).
