Vilma Regina Martins

Graduated in Pharmacy and Biochemistry at the São Paulo University (1984), master (1989) and PhD (1993) degrees in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) at São Paulo University. Associated Researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Science at São Paulo University (since 2021). Research Director and Head of the Tumor Biology and Biomarkers of the A.C.Camargo Cancer Center (2011-2021). Supervisor at the graduation program of Fundação Antonio Prudente. Past President of the Brazilian Society for Cell Biology, past member of the Council of the International Society for Neurochemistry (2010-2013) and Chair of the Committee for Aid and Education in Neurochemistry from the International Society for Neurochemistry (2011-2013). International Fellow of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (2005-2010). Expertise in General Biology with main interest in cell biology and molecular biology. Primary research areas: tumor biology, biomarkers, cancer and prion diseases.Co-founder and CEO of Aljava Biotech, a startup that will develop a platform in functional precision oncology to identify the best treatment for each patient.

Possui graduação em Farmácia e Bioquimica pela Universidade de São Paulo (1984), mestrado (1989) e doutorado (1993) em Ciências Biológicas (Bioquímica) pela Universidade de São Paulo. Atualmente é Pesquisadora Colaboradora do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas da Universidade de São Paulo (2021). Superintendente de Pesquisa e chefe do grupo de Biologia Tumoral e Biomarcadores do A.C.Camargo Cancer Center (2011-20210. Orientadora da pós-graduação da Fundação Antônio Prudente. Foi Presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Biologia Celular, Membro do Conselho da International Society for Neurochemistry (2010-2013), Chair do Committee for Aid, Education in Neurochemistry da International Society for Neurochemistry e International Fellow do Howard Hughes Medical Institute (2005-2010). Tem experiência na área de Biologia Geral, com ênfase em Biologia Celular e Molecular, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Biologia tumoral, biomarcadores, câncer e doenças por prions. Co-fundadora e CEO da startup Aljava Biotech, para desenvolvimento de uma plataforma em oncologia de precisão funcional para identificação da melhor terapia para cada paciente.
