Igor Dias Jurberg

Igor has a Bachelor degree in Engineering from École Polytechnique (2006), a master in Molecular Chemistry from École Polytechnique (2007) and a doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry from the same institution (2010). In 2010, he also did an internship at the R&D department of Sanofi-Aventis (Paris, France), working on the research of an anti-cancer drug. He dis his post-doctoral studies at the Max-Planck Institute for Coal Research, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany (2011) and at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia, Tarragona, Spain (2012). In 2013, Igor came back to his birth country and started a research group at the State University of Campinas. Igor obtained his Habilitation in 2019 and he was promoted to Associate Professor level 5.1 at the IoChem-Unicamp in 2022. Igor was the vice-Head of the Organic Chemistry Department of the IoChem-Unicamp during the period 2018-2020. He is one of the founders of the ACS Brazil Chapter, he was the Secretary during the period 2016-2019 and was the Chair during the period 2019-2021. At the IoChem-Unicamp, he teaches undergraduate and graduate students. His interests in organic chemistry are focused on three research themes: i) (asymmetric) catalysis, ii) Photochemistry and iii) Heterocyclic Chemistry. His research group has a broad interest in catalytic methods, where the focus relies not only on the development of fundamental organic chemistry, but also in applications, which can be potentially transferred to the industry, therefore more directly impacting our society.

Possui graduação em Engenharia na École Polytechnique, Paris, França (2006). Obteve o mestrado em Química Molecular na mesma instituição (2007). Também na École Polytechnique, continuou os seus trabalhos para desenvolver o seu doutorado em Química Orgânica (2010). Em 2010 realizou um estágio no setor de P&D da Sanofi-Aventis (Paris, França) trabalhando no estudo de um medicamento anti-cancerígeno. Em seguida, efetuou estágios de pós-doutoramento no Instituto Max-Planck para Pesquisa do Carbono, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Alemanha (2011), e no Instituto Catalão de Investigação Química, Tarragona, Espanha (2012). Em 2013 voltou para o seu país de origem, iniciando o seu grupo de pesquisa na Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), São Paulo, Brasil. Igor obteve a Livre-Docência em 2019 e foi promovido para Professor Associado 5.1 no IQ-Unicamp em 2022. Igor foi vice-chefe do Departamento de Química Orgânica do IQ-Unicamp durante o biênio 2018-2020. Ele é um dos fundadores da Sessão da Sociedade Americana de Química no Brasil, ele foi seu Secretário durante o período 2016-2019 e o Presidente durante o período 2019-2021. No IQ-Unicamp, ele leciona para a graduação e pós-graduação. Seus interesses em química orgânica estão focados em três linhas de pesquisa principais: i) catálise (assimétrica), ii) Fotoquímica e iii) Química de Heterociclos. O seu grupo de pesquisa possui um amplo interesse em métodos catalíticos, com o foco não somente no desenvolvimento da síntese orgânica fundamental, mas igualmente em aplicações visando quando possível a transferência de tecnologia para indústria, assim causando um impacto mais direto em nossa sociedade.
