Graduado em Engenharia de Materiais pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1979), com mestrado em Ciência e Engenharia dos Materiais pela Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1982) e doutorado em Polymer Technology pela Loughborough University of Technology, Inglaterra (1986). É Professor Titular no Departamento de Engenharia de Materiais DEMa da Universidade Federal de São Carlos UFSCar. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia de Materiais com ênfase em Polímeros, Aplicações, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: processamento de polímeros, extrusão com dupla rosca, degradação termo-mecânica, monitoramento em tempo real (in-line) do processo de extrusão, comportamento reo-óptico, nanocompósitos e blendas poliméricas. É membro fundador da ABPol tendo atuado como Diretor de 1988 até 2011. É editor Chefe do periódico Polímeros:C&T. Publicou o livro "Polymer Science: A textbook for engineers and technologists" em 2019 pela HANSER, e "Ciência dos Polímeros: Um texto para engenheiros e tecnólogos" em 2010 e o de "Técnicas de Caracterização de Polímeros" ambos pela ABPol/ARTLIBER. Participou como Coordenador Geral na organização de dois congressos nacionais (4CBPol e 11CBPol) e da Comissão Organizadora de mais outros 6 congressos nacionais/internacionais (1CBPol, 12CBECIMat, PPS-18, PPS-2004, MACRO2006, PPS-23). Foi Coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciência e Engenharia de Materiais PPG-CEM da UFSCar (Nota 7 da CAPES) de Jul/2012 a Maio/2016 e representante dos professores no seu Conselho de Jun/2016 a Fev/2021. Coordenador do Programa de Dupla Diploma de Doutorado entre o PPG-CEM/UFSCar e Case Western Reserve University CWRU, Ohio, USA. Coordenador do Programa de Doutoramento Interinstitucional DINTER entre PPG-CEM/UFSCar e o PGTI da UNOCHAPECÓ.

Has experience in Materials Engineering with emphasis on Polymers working mainly on the following topics: polymer processing, twin-screw extrusion, thermo-mechanical degradation, real-time (in-line) monitoring of the extrusion process, behavior rheo-optics, nanocomposites and polymer blends. He is a founding member of ABPol having served as Director from 1988 to 2011. He is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Polímeros: C & T. Published the book "Polymer Science: A textbook for engineers and technologists" in 2019 by HANSER, and "Science of Polymers: A text for engineers and technologists" in 2010 and "Techniques of Polymer Characterization" both by ABPol/ARTLIBER. He participated as General Coordinator in the organization of two national congresses (4CBPol and 11CBPol) and the Organizing Committee of another 6 national / international congresses (1CBPol, 12CBECIMat, PPS-18, PPS-2004, MACRO2006, PPS-23).
