Prof. Dr. Afonso Carlos Correa Fleury

Afonso Fleury is Professor at the University of Sao Paulo. He is (former) head of the Production Engineering Department, where he created the area of Work, Technology and Organisation. He was a research fellow at: Institute of Development Studies (UK), Tokyo Institute of Technology, École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussés (France), Institute for Manufacturing, Cambridge University (UK) and prepared research projects for ILO, UNU, IDRC, UNDP, IDE, ECLAC as well as Brazilian institutions, covering different industries such as Aeronautics, Automobile, Capital Goods, Computing and Information, Machine-tools, Shoes, Software, Telecommunications, Textile/Apparel. He is currently engaged in research about International Manufacturing and Operations and coordinates a large project about the internationalisation of firms from Brazil, China, India, Russia and other emerging economies that is being developed at the Centre for Technology Policy and Management at USP. He has published several books and articles on work organization, global operations and technological and industrial policy. His latest book are ?Brazilian multinationals: competences for internationalization?, co-authored with Maria Tereza Leme Fleury Cambridge University Press, 2011, and ?the competitive advantage of emerging market multinationals?, co-edited with Peter Williamson, Maria Tereza Leme Fleury and Ravi Ramamurti, Cambridge University Press, 2013. He is associate editor of the Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management and regional editor of Operations Management Research.
Professor titular da Universidade de São Paulo. Graduação em Engenharia Naval e Oceânica (1970) pela Universidade de São Paulo, MSc pela Stanford University (1975) e doutorado (1978) em Engenharia de Produção pela Universidade de São Paulo. Professor Titular da Escola Politécnica em 1988. Foi Membro do Comitê Assessor do CNPq, CA-EP, no período 2003-2006. Foi Chefe do Departamento de Engenharia de Produção nos períodos 1991-3, 1995-7, 2003-7. Desenvolve trabalhos nas áreas de Organização do Trabalho, Gestão da Tecnologia e da Engenharia,Gestão de Operações Globais. Na condição de Visiting Scholar, trabalhou junto ao Institute of Development Studies da University of Sussex, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Laboratoire Territoire, Technologies et Societés da Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussés e Institute for Manufacturing da University of Cambridge . Desenvolveu estudos e projetos para o International Labour Office, a United Nations University, para o PNUD/UNCTAD, entre outros. É Regional Editor do Operations Management Research, Editorial Board do Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, e membro do Conselho Editorial de revistas brasileiras. Foi Vice-President for Americas do POMS-Production and Operations Management Society (2003-6). Menção honrosa pela ABEPRO em 2011. Prêmio de reconhecimento por notável contribuição pela ANPEPRO em 2015.
