Full professor at the University of Brasília. Graduated in Biological Sciences with a degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Brasília (UnB, 1985). I have a master's degree in Molecular Biology (UnB, 1989) and a PhD in Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology from Indiana University (USA, 1995). I am Coordinator of the Undergraduate Course in Biotechnology (UnB) and former Coordinator of the Graduate Programme in Biotechnology and Biodiversity (Rede Pro-Centro Oeste). I am head of the Molecular Biotechnology Centre (C-BIOTECH), which belongs to the Scientific and Technological Park of UnB working in partnership with companies in the development of biotechnological projects. I was Binational Director of the Brazilian-Argentine Center for Biotechnology (CABBIO) and a researcher member of INCT-Synthetic Biology. I teach the undergraduate courses "Molecular Biology", "Introduction to Biotechnology" and "Genetic Engineering", in addition to "Yeast Biotechnology" and "Heterologous Expression", at the graduate level. Current areas of interest includes molecular genetics and synthetic biology of microorganisms (Pichia pastoris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, filamentous fungi, Zymomonas mobilis and clostridia) for the production of molecules of biotechnological interest such as biopharmaceuticals, industrial enzymes and biofuels.

Possui mestrado em Biologia Molecular (UnB, 1989) e doutorado em Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology pela Indiana University (EUA, 1995). É Coordenador do Curso de Graduação em Biotecnologia da UnB e ex-Coordenador do Programa de Pós-graduação em Biotecnologia e Biodiversidade (Rede Pro-Centro Oeste). É gestor do Centro de Biotecnologia Molecular (C-BIOTECH), que faz parte do Parque Científico e Tecnológico da UnB, atuando em parceria com empresas no desenvolvimento de projetos biotecnológicos. Foi Diretor Binacional do Centro Brasileiro-Argentino de Biotecnologia (CABBIO) e é pesquisador do INCT-Biologia Sintética. Atua nas áreas de genética molecular e biologia sintética de micro-organismos (Pichia pastoris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, fungos filamentosos, Zymomonas mobilis e clostrídeos) para a produção de moléculas de interesse biotecnológico como biofármacos, enzimas industriais e biocombustíveis.
