Professor Rasiah Ladchumananandasivam, B.Sc., M.Sc., P.G.Dip. Text., PhD., AUMIST., CText FTI., FRSA., CCol FSDC., SD AATCC. Initially graduated from Bolton Institute of Technology (at present University of Bolton) with OND in Textile Technology in 1971 and in 1974 graduated from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ? UMIST, (at present Manchester University) United Kingdom, in Textile Chemistry. In 1974 conferred the title of ?Associate of the UMIST in Textile Chemistry? by UMIST. In 1975 concluded Post Graduate Diploma in Polymer and Fibre Science. From 1975 till 1976 worked as supervisor at the English Numbering Machines, London-UK, in the polymer sector. In 1977 accepted the post of Visiting Professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. He was made permanent employee of the university in 1980 as Assistant Professor. In 1977 received the title of ?Licentiate of the Textile Institute? ? LTI, by the Textile Institute, Manchester, UK. In 1979 he was awarded the title of ?Chartered Textile Technologist? and ?Associate of the Textile Institute? ? CText ATI. IN 1986 he concluded his MSc en Textile Engineering at UMIST ? UK and PhD in 1989 at the same institution. He was awarded grant by the CAPES ? Brazilian Grant Authority. In 1992 he was awarded the title of ?Charted Member? of the Society of Dyers and Colourists, Yorkshire, UK. He was the course tutor of ?Curso Superior de Tecnologia Têxtil? for three terms of two years each. He acted as the Course Director of the Post Graduate Programme in Mechanical Engineering at the UFRN. He was one of the founder members of the Doctoral Programme in Science and Materials Engineering. He was the founder member of the Textile Engineering Course in 1997 at UFRN and the Textile Engineering Department in 2004. He was the Course Director from 1998 ? 2002 and head of the Department from 2004 ? 2008. He at present is Professor Titular at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte ? UFRN. He has vast experience in the areas of chemical engineering, polymer and fibre science, flexible and rigid composites using natural textile fibres. At present his research interests are: nanotechnology, electrospinning, textile wet processing, technical textiles, intelligent textiles, functional textiles, administration and marketing.

(Qualificação Profissional conferido pelo Instituto Têxtil do Reino Unido). Em 1979 foi eleito ?Associate of the Textile Institute? ? CText ATI. Em 1986 concluiu o Mestrado na UMIST (Reino Unido), área de Engenharia Têxtil, tendo apresentado tese intitulada ?Accessibility of Cotton to Anionic Dyes? (Acessibilidade do Algodão aos Corantes Aniônicos), como bolsista da CAPES. Em 1989 concluiu o Doutorado (PhD) na UMIST (Reino Unido) com pesquisa na área de Engenharia Têxtil com tese intitulada ?Accessibility of Cotton to Non-ionic Dyes? (Acessibilidade do Algodão aos Corantes Não-iônicos) como bolsista da CAPES. Em 1992 recebeu o grau de ?Chartered Membership? da ?Society of Dyers and Colourists? (Reino Unido). Coordenador do Curso Superior de Tecnologia Têxtil da UFRN por três biênios. 1991 a 1993 - Coordenador do Programa de Pós-graduação em Engenharia Mecânica da UFRN. Fundador e Membro Permanente do Programa de Doutorado em Ciência e Engenharia de Materiais. Fundador do Curso de Engenharia Têxtil (1997) e do Departamento de Engenharia Têxtil (2004). Chefe do Departamento de Engenharia Têxtil, 2004 -2008. Atualmente é Professor Titular da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte - UFRN. Tem experiência na área de Engenharia Química, Ciências dos Polímeros e Engenharia das Fibras, Compósitos Flexíveis e Rígidos com fibras têxteis. Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: nanotecnologia, nanocompósitos, nanomateriais - síntese e estudo das estruturas, óticas e antimicrobianas, eletrofiação, processos químicos úmidos, têxteis técnicos, têxteis inteligentes, têxteis funcionais e gerenciamento e marketing.
