Marcius da Silva Almeida

Founder of the Protein Advanced Biochemistry (www.cenabio-pab.com) of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), associate professor of the Institute of Medical Biochemistry of UFRJ, and director of research and teaching of the National Center for Structural Biology and bio-imaging (CENABIO) of UFRJ. Currently, his main interest lies in identifying and characterizing proteins with biotechnological potential, including biopharmaceuticals and technical enzymes. Graduated in Pharmacy at UFRJ (1993-1997) and PhD in Biological Chemistry at UFRJ (1997-2001) under the supervision of Prof. Eleonora Kurtenbach. Postdoc in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of proteins, initially at National Center for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Jiri Jonas (2002) under the supervision of Prof. Fabio C.L. Almeida and later at SCRIPPS Research Institute - California (USA, 2003-2006) under the supervision of Prof. Kurt Wüthrich. Fellow at the Pew Charitable Trust Latin American Program in the Biomedical Sciences. Trains postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students in Molecular Biochemistry, with emphasis on proteins, acting on the following topics: cloning, recombinant protein production, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of proteins. Fundador da Plataforma Avançada de Biomoléculas (www.cenabio-pab.com) da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), professor associado do Instituto de Bioquímica Médica da UFRJ, diretor de pesquisa e ensino do Centro Nacional de Biologia Estrutural e Bioimagem (CENABIO) da UFRJ. Atualmente, seu principal interesse é identificar e caracterizar proteínas com potencial biotecnológico, incluindo biofármacos e enzimas técnicas. Possui graduação em Farmácia pela UFRJ (1993-1997) e doutorado em Química Biológica pela UFRJ (1997-2001) sob supervisão da Prof. Eleonora Kurtenbach. Realizou pós-doutorado com Ressonância Magnética Nuclear de proteínas, inicialmente no Centro Nacional de Ressonância Magnética Nuclear Jiri Jonas (2002) sob supervisão do Prof. Fabio C.L. Almeida e posteriormente no SCRIPPS Research Institute - Califórnia (USA, 2003-2006) sob supervisão do Prof. Kurt Wuthrich. É Fellow do Pew Charitable Trust Latin American Program in the Biomedical Sciences. Treina pós-doutorandos, alunos de pós-graduação e graduação na área de Bioquímica Molecular, com ênfase em Proteínas, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: clonagem, produção recombinante de proteínas e Ressonância Magnética Nuclear de proteínas.
