Josimari Melo DeSantana is Associate Professor Level III of the Federal University of Sergipe, crowded in the Department of Physiotherapy, which she coordinated for two years (2009-11). She has gotten the CNPq Productivity Fellow Award since 2009. She was Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Physiological Sciences (2017-20) and Coordinator of the Post-graduation in Health Sciences (2010-16). Permanent teacher of both programs since 2008. Degree in Physiotherapy from Tiradentes University/UNIT (1999-2003), Specialization in Pain by the Brazilian Society for the Study of Pain (SBED/ 2005), Master (2004) and PhD degrees (2006) in Rehabilitation Sciences from University of São Paulo (FMRP-USP) and Post-doctorate Pain Neuroscience, Pain Research Program, Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science, University of Iowa (USA, 2007-08). Founder and Coordinator of the Laboratory of Research in Neurosciences (LAPENE-UFS) and leads the Pain and Motricity Research Group (since 2008, CNPq). Coordinates the Pain and Movement Outpatient Clinic of UFS. She was President (2008-16) and Vice-President (2016-20) of the Structuring Teaching Nucleus. She chaired the Health Graduate Research Committee (2016-20) and Health UnderGraduate Research Committee (2015-18), Holder of Research Committee (2015-18). Member of the Brazilian Society for the Study of Pain (SBED) (2008-20) and International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) (2008-22). Consultant for the IASP Pain Curriculum for Physical Therapy. Coordinator of the Special Group who worked and published the Brazilian Pain Curriculum for Physical Therapy. Treasurer Director of SBED (2020-22). Coordinator (2016-17) and Scientific Director (2018-19) of the Pain and Movement Committee of SBED. His work in research takes place at the level of clinical science (clinical studies with human beings) and pre-clinical (experimental models of pain). The researcher has approved projects with funding in national funding agencies such as CNPq, FAPITEC and MEC and international, i.e. NIH (National Institute of Health) and IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain). Maintains international research cooperation with research groups from the United States (University of Iowa)) and Denmark (Aalborg University) and national (UFSCar, USP). She received the Women in Science Award promoted by the Brazilian Academy of Science, UNESCO and L ́Óreal Brasil. Her research interests are: to identifying pathophysiological mechanisms of diseases such as fibromyalgia, as well as therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action of resources and physical therapy methods (peripheral electrostimulation, physical exercise and manual therapy) with analgesic properties in different clinical and preclinical studies. Sua atuação em pesquisa se dá em nível de ciência clínica (estudos clínicos com seres humanos) e pré-clínica (modelos experimentais de dor). A pesquisadora tem projetos aprovados com financiamento em agências de fomento nacionais como CNPq, FAPITEC e MEC e internacionais, a saber, NIH (National Institute of Health) e IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain). Mantém cooperação internacional de pesquisa com grupos de pesquisa dos Estados Unidos (University of Iowa)) e Dinamarca (Aalborg University) e nacionais (UFSCar, USP). Em 2011, recebeu o Prêmio Para Mulheres na Ciência promovido pela Academia Brasileira de Ciência, UNESCO e L´Óreal Brasil. Suas linhas de pesquisa se dedicam a identificar mecanismos fisiopatológicos de doenças como a fibromialgia, bem como efeitos terapêuticos e mecanismos de ação de recursos e métodos fisioterapêuticos (eletroestimulação periférica, exercício físico e terapia manual) com propriedades analgésicas em diferentes estudos clínicos e pré-clínicos. Além disso, também investiga efeito de métodos fisioterapêuticos e realidade virtual baseada em Serious Games na função motora e/ou sensorial em disfunções neuromusculares. De forma interdisciplinar, mantém colaboração de pesquisa com pesquisadores das áreas de Ciências da Computação, Engenharia Elétrica e Farmacologia/Biotecnologia, com os quais possui publicações científicas, premiações, registros de software e de patente. É mãe ativa na criação de dois filhos nascidos em 2010 e 2013.
