Sergi Figuerola Fernández

Sergi is the Technology and Innovation Director at i2CAT (CTIO) since May 2013 and co-chair of the European cluster on Converged and Optical Networks (CaON). He joined i2CAT in 2004 as Network Technologies Area Coordinator, becoming the Director of the Distributed Applications and Networks Area on 2010. From 2001 to 2004 he worked as researcher within the optical communications group of the UPC. He is graduated in Telecommunication Engineering by the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC, January 2002) and holds a Masters in Project Management from La Salle (Universitat Ramón Llull- 2004). At i2CAT he is in charge of the strategy of the different Technology and Innovation areas, and leads the Technology Transfer office. During his period as DANA manager he led a team of 26 researchers/developers involved in more than 20 successful projects, being most of them EC FP7 projects. He acted as technical coordinator of the GEYSERS FP7 project, Coordinator of the MANTYCHORE FP7 project, Research Activity Leader of the FEDERICA FP7 project and WorkPackage Leader of the PHOSPHORUS FP6 project. His main research interests are related to optical networking, new architectures, Infrastructure as a Service, Network as a Service, cloud computing, Future Internet and Open Innovation, SDN, NFV.
